Term 4 | We’ll See You Soon

We hope our students, families and staff are enjoying a restful break and the beauty of spring.

We look forward to welcoming our school community back for Term 4 on Monday 12 October, for an exciting final term filled with learning, creativity, celebration and connection.

Growing with Intention | An Exciting New Chapter for Mount Barker Waldorf School

We are delighted to share an exciting and significant step forward for the future of Mount Barker Waldorf School. From 2027, we will begin a carefully planned expansion of our Primary School, starting with the introduction of an additional 6-year-old group. In 2028, this will progress to two Class 1 groups, with an additional class planned each year as these cohorts move through the Primary School.

At the heart of this decision is a commitment that reflects the values of Steiner education: making our education accessible to more children and families who seek it.

We are fortunate to be experiencing strong and growing demand for a Waldorf education, particularly in our younger year levels. While this is a wonderful reflection of the value families place on our school, it also means there are children who would love the opportunity to join our community but for whom we simply do not currently have a place.

As our school grows, what sits at the heart of Mount Barker Waldorf School remains unchanged. Our commitment to meaningful relationships, a rich and developmentally responsive Steiner education, and knowing and supporting each child, will continue to guide us.

This is a wonderful milestone for our school and one that reflects the strength and growth of our community. We are incredibly excited about what lies ahead and look forward to welcoming new children and families into our school community as we begin this next chapter together.

As the equinox approaches we prepare to welcome and celebrate spring at kindergarten. The children can feel the changes from winter to spring in nature, animal life and human activity around them. The surrounding living world awakens with the budding and blossoming of the trees and flowers, the singing of the busy birds nesting, the warmth of the sun and lengthening days that call us into nature again. The children’s lives are deepened in their experience of all that is happening around them through the festival celebration.

Each year, the festival with its familiar activities, songs, story and food returning at the same point each year, gives the children a cyclic experience in their life that strengthens their sense of the rhythm of the year. This all helps them to strengthen their relationship to their sense of self and of place which greatly supports their well-being. At the end of the festival the child's basket is filled with spring gifts and craft that has been completed during the morning celebration.

Last Friday the Primary school gathered under a beautiful blue Spring sky to honour the coming of the new season of growth and renewal through dance and song.

Over the past few weeks, classes have lovingly and carefully practiced their singing and dancing together, and we created beautiful garlands from flowers brought in from each family the morning of the Festival.

We finished the day with a shared lunch all together above the tiers and it was a joy to share this special day with our whole school community 💐

NIGHT IN ELSINORE 🎭

Our Class 10 students are bringing Night in Elsinore to the stage, a wonderfully witty parody of Shakespeare’s tragic drama Hamlet.

There’s intrigue, betrayal, drama, death by poison, and quite a few bodies lying around by the end of the show.

But fear not! Unlike Shakespeare’s original, you won’t need to bring your tissues. Expect plenty of laughs instead!

Our Class 10s have been working hard to bring this production to life, building confidence, creativity and teamwork along the way.
Come along, support our talented students and prepare for a very different night in Elsinore!

An Exciting New Investment in Our School 🍽

We’re delighted to share some exciting news with our school community! Thanks to a successful capital grant, we are transforming our former Biology laboratory into a large new school kitchen.

This will be a wonderful addition to our school, creating more opportunities for students to learn through practical, hands-on experiences, from cooking and food preparation to developing our garden-to-plate philosophy 🌱

The space will be used across both Primary and Secondary and will also become a place for our wider school community to gather and share in events throughout the year. With two dedicated Science classrooms remaining, our students will continue to have purpose-built spaces for practical Science and Biology learning. This project represents an exciting investment in our school and, most importantly, in the experiences and opportunities we can provide for our students.

Class 6 Kangaroo Island Geology Camp 🌿
Five days. An incredible island. Geology brought to life.

Our Class 6 students recently headed to Kangaroo Island for an unforgettable five-day Geology Camp, exploring extraordinary landscapes and experiencing their classroom learning firsthand.

From navigating across the Remarkable Rocks and exploring the caves at Kelly Hill, to climbing the dunes at Little Sahara and discovering the dramatic coastline at Admirals Arch, every day offered something new to explore.

The students kept geology field books throughout the camp, making observations, sketches and notes as they discovered how rocks, caves, cliffs, sand dunes and coastlines have been shaped over immense periods of time.

But camp is about more than geology. Five days of living and travelling together brings opportunities for adventure, friendship, responsibility and growing independence.

It was a week of discovery, challenge, laughter and learning, creating the kind of experiences that stay with you long after you return home.

🌸 MBWS Spring Fair 2026 🌸

Our Spring Fair is just around the corner, and we can’t wait to welcome our school community and wider community for a wonderful day together!

Come and enjoy a day filled with live music, maypole dancing, garden talks, a climbing wall, artisan and food stalls, children’s games and plenty of delights for the whole family.

There will be lots to explore, enjoy and discover as we celebrate spring and come together as a community.
