Outdoor weddings in Sydney are beautiful… but they need a little planning.

As a Sydney marriage celebrant, here are three things I always tell my couples:

☀️ Have a backup plan in case the weather turns.
🌿 Think about shade for your guests, especially in summer.
💧 Provide water and avoid the midday heat whenever possible.

Comfort matters. When your guests feel good, the ceremony feels magical.

Planning a Legals Only ceremony in Sydney? Here’s what you actually need to make it official.

A Legals Only ceremony is the shortest form of legal marriage ceremony in Australia.
No long script. No formalities beyond what the law requires. Just the essentials. But you can personalise this beautifully by adding some promises that you write for each other each.

To legally marry, you need:

• An authorised marriage celebrant
• Two witnesses
• Your legal vows

Your witnesses must be:
• Over 18
• Sober
• Able to understand English

During the ceremony, we simply say the legal wording required under Australian marriage law, you exchange vows, sign the paperwork, and you’re officially married.

It’s a great option for couples who:
• Want to marry quickly
• Prefer something small and simple
• Are planning a celebration later
• Or just love the idea of an intimate moment

Yesterday I had the joy of marrying this gorgeous couple at Balmoral Rotunda in Mosman - proof that even a short ceremony can still feel incredibly special.

If you’re beginning your wedding ceremony planning and not quite sure where to start, you’re not alone. This beautiful season is about more than bookings and timelines - it’s about creating a meaningful beginning to your married life together.

As a marriage celebrant in Sydney, I’ve guided hundreds of couples through the early stages of planning. My biggest piece of advice? Start gently. Have those honest conversations, look after the little details (like your ring), and take time to explore what feels right for you as a couple - not what you think a wedding “should” look like.

Your wedding ceremony is the heart of your day. It’s where your love story is shared, your vows are spoken, and your marriage begins. With the right guidance, planning can feel calm, intentional, and even joyful.
