Welcome to Fitzroy Inn, one of the finest country inns in the scenic Southern Highlands of New South Wales. Only one hour from the centre of Sydney by car and 2 hours by train. Set on the edge of a rural town, this charming Victorian colonial building with its wrap-around veranda opened as the Fitzroy Inn in 1836, and was the first lodge or guest house in the State to provide rooms as well as liquor. Today, the Fitzroy Inn continues that hospitable tradition and recently reopened as a country inn with a fine restaurant, set amidst five acres of tranquil, terraced gardens with a stream flowing through it. The estate is situated amongst the rolling hills of the Southern Highlands on an acreage dotted with century-old oaks overlooking Alexandra Mountain. The lavender-lined driveway, beautiful gardens and picturesque paths lead to the lovingly restored Inn where a warm welcome awaits. Courtyards, corridors, light, airy bedrooms and a basement so rich in yesteryear – you can almost hear the footsteps across the stone floors or the echo of whispers from the past.

One of the pleasures of staying at Fitzroy Inn is having the run of a beautiful old house, rather than spending all your time in your accommodation.

There's a library for a quiet afternoon with a book, comfortable lounges to settle into, a billiards room for a friendly game and our old cigar room, with its traditional furnishings and fireplace.

These shared spaces are part of what makes a stay at Fitzroy Inn a little different. There's plenty of room to relax, enjoy the company of others or simply find a quiet corner to yourself.

🎼 A little music in the Southern Highlands.

The Southern Highlands Symphony Orchestra will finish its 2026 season with Piano and Passion, two performances at Bowral Memorial Hall on 28 and 29 November.

The programme includes Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1, music from Jurassic Park and works by local Southern Highlands composers.

It's a lovely opportunity to enjoy some live music while spending a weekend exploring Bowral and Mittagong.
