A short history of Lord Sandwich

Two slices of bread filled with a yummy spread. A common and popular dish that has been around for centuries. But I bet you have never heard of Lord Sandwich, who gave the humble dish its name. John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich was known to order two slices of bread filled with roast beef during his lengthy gambling sessions. He was fond of this meal, as it allowed him to keep playing while eating without getting his hands greasy.

The sandwich soon rose to popularity in London. The industrial revolution helped it rise to international fame, as a fast, portable and affordable food.

Our gourmet sandwiches are a staple item in our menu, perfect for office meetings, conferences and workshops.

Delicious much!

Our beef ragu is and always will be one of our most popular dishes. It's just so tasty and who does not love fresh pasta. From time to time, we reminisce the days of our pasta nights. Luckily, you can still get your hands on our ragu as part of our catering services.

Community cooking classes at Dux Gutz, Mondays 5pm-8pm

Hello, I'm Zac - chef and owner here at Dux Gutz Catering. I'm holding free cooking classes in collaboration with and particularly the North West Community Hub, for people who are most disadvantaged in our community.

These classes are also open to the general public as a paid event, with all proceeds going directly to Community Canteen, a local Brisbane charity that provides meals for people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless, and for women and children who are in temporary accommodation as a result of domestic violence.

Classes will be held for 10-20 people in our kitchen here in Milton, where we'll cook up a selection of different meals for each other. I'll be teaching essential skills to become a confident home cook:

-knife skills
-cooking with stoves and ovens and understanding heat control;-seasoning and flavour combinations;
-how to cook with what's in season
-workflow, cleanliness, and how to organise your space.

We'll also sit down at the end of our cooking session and share a meal with invited friends and family (1 adult guest per participant). Each participant will go home with a selection of different meals for the week ahead.

All required equipment, food, and packaging will be funded by takings from our café here at Dux Gutz.

We create a menu with you to best suit the style of food and sense of occasion you want. Food can either be plattered for sharing and grazing, or served individually.

We can arrive with your food ready to eat, set it up and leave you to it, or we can prepare and serve at your location. We can take care of all the crockery, cutlery, serving ware, linen, ice, ice buckets, and anything else you might need.
