Every time I go to this region, I feel like I’ve discovered the Tuscany that very few people still know about.

And the best part? It’s in Spain.✨

💌I’m from Madrid and I’ve always been a lover of Northern Spain. And every time I travel north, I stop here for a few days to enjoy this region.

Driving through its little roads and quiet villages.
Seeing fields and fields of vineyards.
Watching local growers take care of the land.

And discovering corners that have a completely different rhythm and way of life from the big cities.

🫶🏼This area carefully preserves its essence.

And honestly, nowadays that is very, very hard to find, don’t you think?

👀This place doesn’t try to impress.

It simply wants to protect what it has carried for generations, because it knows that is its greatest treasure.

❤️Tradition is its main engine.

And that’s why, when people arrive here, they only want to plan their next escape back.🙏🏽

📍This region is Rioja. And I promise you, if you come here, you’ll only want to come back.

💬Want to know the best time to visit this beautiful region? Comment “RIOJA” and I’ll tell you.

This week, I fell in love all over again. And here’s why.

Rioja, the Basque Country and Navarra. Meeting incredible people. Deep connections. So many pintxos. Staying in experiences, not just hotels.

I’ll be sharing each part of the trip in more detail over the next few days.

But this week reminded me why I love travelling through northern Spain so much.

PS: Thank you, Mum, for coming with me 🫶🏼

✨🌊7 Beaches to discover around San Sebastián.

La Co**ha is majestic, elegant and unforgettable…no doubt about it.

But San Sebastián is also surrounded by beaches with their own soul: wilder, quieter, more local, more dramatic✨.

So if you feel like stepping a little beyond the postcard and discovering different corners of the Basque coast, this is my selection of beaches to swim, slow down and enjoy the area with a different rhythm.

💬Comment “San Sebastián” if you’re coming soon and would love to discover more beautiful spots like these 💙

👀Something you ask me a lot is what I pack when I travel around Spain.

So here’s my honest recommendation, based on my own style and the kind of trips I usually do.🫶🏼

Of course, this is very personal and it really depends on the type of trip, but if there’s one thing I’d recommend:

🥾For the North: always pack a jacket, long trousers, comfy shoes and a rain jacket. The vibe is usually more casual, practical and outdoorsy.

💃🏽For the South: honestly, you probably won’t need most of that. I’d only keep the comfy shoes if you want to explore the beautiful nature, little villages and sierras. And if there’s one place where I’d bring a slightly nicer outfit… it’s definitely the South.

🌞For the coast and the islands: I always go for something more chill, simple, comfy and fresh.

Obviously, this changes a lot depending on the kind of trip you’re doing, the season and the region.

But if you need help with your Spain itinerary or what to pack for your trip, message me and I’ll send you my tips😊.

Nat

🇪🇸✨There’s a little ritual I’d say almost every Spaniard repeats in the morning: making pan con tomate with jamón.

And honestly, it has taken me years (and living abroad) to realise that this is one of the morning rituals that makes me truly happy.❤️

Preparing something for yourself with simple, natural ingredients… knowing they come from the land, from people who have cared for them and worked for them, creates something really special.

It’s not just the flavour, even though it’s incredible. It’s the way it makes you feel. Slow, connected, awake, grateful.

So if you come to Spain, try this ritual one morning. And I promise you… it might change the way you start your day.✨

This region is one of those places near Madrid that most travellers completely miss: La Alcarria✨

My dad is from a small village here, so coming back always feels special. It’s quiet, traditional and full of those little moments that make you feel connected to the real Spain.

Today we had churros in the village, joined a local romería, visited hidden corners of a family-run winery, discovered 15th-century ruins and drove through villages that feel like travelling back in time.

✨And this is exactly the kind of Spain we love discovering and unlocking at Atypical Spanish: local routes, hidden gems and meaningful experiences most travellers would never find on their own.

Spain is not only about the famous stops. Sometimes, the most special memories happen in places you didn’t even know existed.✨

💬Comment “Alcarria” and I’ll send you the route I did today.

I wish I could make you feel even 1% of what I feel when I’m in Spain✨

👉🏼Going to Madrid? Read this first.

I’m from Madrid, but I don’t know if this happens to you too… sometimes I feel like I still don’t fully know my own city.

So I wanted to do a tour that would take me to real, local spots and help me experience Madrid from the inside, with someone who truly knows where to go to feel its essence.✨🫒🥃

Then I met Víctor, and when he told me about his project, Flavors of Madrid, I had no doubt.

He took us to places I didn’t even have on my map yet, told us stories about Madrid and our traditions that I honestly didn’t know, and we spent a morning that didn’t feel like a touristy tour at all.

🫶🏼You know I don’t recommend things lightly, but when I do, it’s because I’ve genuinely tried them and I know they’ll help you discover that Atypical Spanish essence that can be so hard to find with so many tours and blogs out there.

So guys, if you’re going to Madrid, follow the team at and try their experience. I promise it’s such an authentic way to discover the city.

For bookings, you can book directly with them or through me ☺️

The biggest mistake I see in the itineraries you send me is choosing the wrong destination for the wrong time of year.👀🫣

🫶🏼So here’s my honest take on what to visit, and when, if you’re coming to Spain.

👉🏼If you’re unsure about your itinerary, comment below or DM me your destination and the month you’re travelling, and I’ll give you my honest verdict, so you don’t make a mistake before booking.
