Kong's Kings

Established in 2013, Kong’s Kings is one of Melbourne’s longest running drag king collectives, second only to King Victoria Drag Kings which folded in 2012.

"Kongs" as it's now affectionately known, provides regular performance opportunities for established drag kings and gender diverse drag artists; and pathways for new and emerging drag performers into the queer arts circuit. Kongs operates on a not-for-profit basis and is committed to fostering inclusive, accessible, gender-friendly spaces for the queer community.

The more people we speak to, the more we realise Kongapalooza wasn’t just any ordinary Kongs show; it was an historic moment. With multiple generations of kings sharing the stage on one night - from King Victoria stars , Muthaf**ka MC & Scon Bott, to our beloved Kongs’ founders & right through to some of the scene’s newest performers. Naarm’s drag king scene is thriving thanks to the generations of kings that have nurtured it over the decades and we could not be more proud to be a part of such a strong legacy of q***r joy and genderf**kery. 🏳️‍🌈

Just gotta say, this lineup was freakin fire! A massive thank you to all 27 of you for absolutely eating up the stage and for being a part of this historic moment (more on that in our next post!). Our jaws are still on the floor, kings. The performances were funny, weird, beautiful, moving and just next level amazing and we love you all so much. Y’all did Kong proud. 💖

Jesse Dean’s love of Kongs is no secret and he is ready to give you all some extra special love as one of your hosts for Kongapalooza. Dean (Daddy Dean if you’re good) has been gyrating through Melbourne’s drag scene since 2013. He’s one tubby horn dog wrapped up in glitter and lycra and you won’t want to take your eyes off him!

That fateful night BustHerr jumped onto a random speakeasy stage, stole the microphone and declared it Kongs Kings, Justin Sider was right there with him to try and pry the microphone out of his hands and attempt to give it back to the local jazz talent... but it was too late. With the spotlight suddenly thrust upon him, all eyes on his bad boy, emo cowboy vibes, he had no choice but to turn on the charm and give the people what they want.

Justin is not only one of the founders of Kongs, but has been sliding knee first onto drag king stages since the 1500’s.
Here for one night only to talk s**t with nothing but a mic, a beer and his old pal. Get ready for the smooth MC styling of your old mate, The Justin Sider!

Through performance, music and images they explore such themes as joy, death, magick, cartoons, fashion, pop culture, synesthesia, memoir and the unconscious.

Did someone say “you can’t mix Mambo No. 5 by Lou Bega into Untouched by the Veronicas”? Then clearly they’ve never met our DJ, the memorable (derogatory) DJ Gay Dad! Gay Father is a delicious house music daddy with wine mum energy; a genderq***r sonic staple on q***r and trans dance floors everywhere across so-called Australia.

Their dykey carabiner full of USBs has graced the decks of Mardi Gras, Sydney WorldPride, Gaytimes, Laneway Festival, Beers for Qu**rs, Unicorns, Haven, P**F DOOF, HONCHO DISKO, Midsumma Carnival and more. They were even nominated for DJ of the Year at the MEDEAs, which is pretty funny. Dedicated to creating fruity, bustling q***r dancefloors, you can guarantee they’ve got the best bangers up their sleeve.

Justin Teliqure - Melbourne’s premiere Drag King.

Justin Teliqure is Melbourne’s drag king pretty party boy. Justin goes down like an expensive liquor - smooth and spicy, leaves a sweet taste lingering on your lips. He’ll grove his way into your heart and maybe even your fantasy’s with his suave and sexy performances.

He is a triple threat, entertaining audiences with his dance moves, comedic routines and smooth vocals. He loves bringing a party and enjoys hyping up a crowd.

Teliqure has become a staple on Melbourne’s biggest drag stages and would like to thank his fans for their support.

In 2016, Justin was reborn into the Melbourne drag scene. His fluid moves, sexy swagger and humorous nature has kept his audiences wanting more. Justin enjoys performing, connecting with his community and of course Tequila.

He is a mixed bag of creativity and loves to bring new acts to the stage. He is a sweet guy with smooth moves, positive vibes and a flirty personality!

Voted Mx Congeniality in the MEDEAS 2024 and a Judge 2025, he is easy to talk to and loves to spread positive vibes in any space he takes up!
