2 restocked props in 2 days? Not like me lately, I know… but fighting through some tiredness because I still have a business to grow right here.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to read some Dungeon Crawler Carl (no spoilers please, I’ve only just started!)

Whenever I land myself on a big film, I always have these grand designs to do both the film work in whatever department I’m in (this job it’s SFX) and then get home and keep rolling on my own work…
I can tell you right now, two films back to back since April and 10.5 hour days plus travel at least 5 days a week have just kicked my ass and not allowed for anywhere near as much of that as I’d like… especially as a solo dad of a teen (there’s a lot of weekend shopping trips)
But I’m still doing as much as I can manage… even if it’s just one small restock here and there.
So… tonight’s one small restock.

Two films back to back really was unexpected but film work is also the only way I get to keep this prop business dream alive right now. So we do what we must so I can keep bringing your favourite things to life!

Some BTS of the new film I’ve been working on, courtesy of This Is Melbourne.
This is going to carry me through until early December so I apologise it’s been a quieter year here than planned. Didn’t think I’d be doing 2 films back to back.

If any of my Americans are in Lafayette Indiana, I highly recommend checking out Wulfgar Props doing this prop and costume set up! I’d be on my way right now to support them but, alas, Australia is a decent flight away. One day, though, I’ll make that a reality!

DEADLOCKED FILMING IN VICTORIA 💥

Academy Award® winner Jamie Foxx is set to lead Amazon MGM Studios’ new hostage action film Deadlocked, filming across Melbourne’s C*D, Docklands and Port Melbourne, including several stages at Docklands Studios Melbourne.

Melbourne’s streets will once again be transformed, with large-scale action sequences unfolding across the Docklands precinct. Foxx will be joined by Sasha Calle, Kiki Layne and Luke Hemsworth, alongside local cast and crew, and post-production also set to be delivered locally.

Producer Fred Berger said: “I’ve filmed all over the world, and few places have impressed me as much as Victoria, both for its incredible cityscapes and the depth of talent within its screen industry.”

Supported by the Victorian Government through VicScreen’s Victorian Screen Incentive and the Australian Government’s Location Offset.

The last few weeks have pretty much all just been cleaning and rearranging and, while I’m not done yet, I wanted to spend some time on actual projects… managed around 1.5 hours tonight getting some time in on the Fortnite Surgical Burst. A little more shaping and marked out some layers I need to cut down but it was well and truly residential tool ban by the time I got to that so it’ll have to wait.
Feels good to be able to work in a slightly better organised space.

Putting the Fortnite Surgical Burst on the desk last night as the “active build,” even if just for the aesthetic photos has reminded me not just that I make cool things but is reminding me how far I’ve come as a maker.
I don’t ever think of myself as a wood worker because what I do isn’t like traditional woodwork even if I use the same tools. But, each build, every year that passes, I see straighter lines, things I wouldn’t have even dreamed of tackling in years past and I see the scale of what I do change, even just mentally.
It’s a good feeling to see yourself grow.

Last update for the night.
There is a hell of a lot more to organise than just this little corner but I’m happy to say that this, at least, is far more functional than it’s been in probably years.
• Projects ready to mould are hanging.
• Active build is on the desk (not that I’ll get to do much while I still have cleaning and organising to do)
• Consumables are all in drawers making everything far more functional
• Small projects are in stacking tubs
• Larger projects are on the bottom shelf.
• The lights on my powerboard aren’t really strong enough to give me the light I need but I have purchased a large LED light panel that I will suspend overhead at some stage soon.
• Spray can storage is now in the metal cabinet by the side of this desk and I will be laser cutting myself some trays to make stocktake and restock much smoother and will help me keep organised.

I really am having to do some mental gymnastics to sort this right now but it’s helping.
