Wandering Home Ceramics comes from the hands and heart of Naarm / Melbourne based ceramicist Nerida Ivory. Her minimal yet cheerful designs aim to bring joy and colour to the everyday object.

Nerida twists and turns lumps of clay on a pottery wheel into functional and decorative ceramics. The handmade nature of the process means that each piece has had its own journey of weeks of creation and may be similar but never the exact same as another piece. This uniqueness creates a connection between Nerida’s ceramics and its owners, for her makers marks can still be felt and she hopes that the happiness in their creation can be felt too.

Heart to Hand Design

The bowls I make are an invitation to enjoy the daily processes of cooking and eating. As a trained chef and industrial designer living in a small home, I focus on making beautiful useful bowls that feel comfortable in the hand, work well in the kitchen, and add visual interest when stacked on a shelf.

Each bowl is wheel-thrown and hand-decorated, made from sturdy reclaimed stoneware clay and high-fired to make it food-safe. To further minimise the environmental footprint of my bowls, I work in a shared studio that I travel to by bike or train, and I fire my pieces in the electric kiln there.

I have been fortunate to study and practice ceramics at the RMIT School of Ceramics, the Slow Clay Centre, SnakeBird Studio and Twelve80 Studio. I have sold work directly before, but this is my first market stall. I'm excited to join the line-up of artists and makers who share a commitment to excellent locally-made products.

My name is George, and I’m a Melbourne based artist creating a whimsical universe inspired by slugs.

My practice began by drawing the slugs in my garden, and the playful characters I developed became a joyful way to connect with others who share a love for the small and strange.

This led me to create handmade and painted ceramic slugs, each one unique, allowing people to have a small slimy treasure of their own.

I'll be opening up my studio space at the Coburg Makers Market, so you can see where all the slimy action happens.
