Throwback to my last Kolkata trip and a memorable Khichuri Party!
আমাদের পাড়ার মহিলাদের দলটা বড্ড অদ্ভুত! সেখানে আমরা ৪০ বছর থেকে ৬০ এক ঘরে বসে হইচই করি, এখন অনেকেই ছড়িয়ে,ছিটিয়ে গেছে! যিনি দলটা তৈরি করে ছিলেন তিনিও কবেই ইহলোক ত্যাগ করেছেন ! কিন্তু তবুও কেমন করে যেন সব আড্ডায়, সে থাকে ! এবার কলকাতায় গিয়ে বহুবছর পর সবার সাথে একটা সন্ধ্যে কাটানোর সুযোগ পেয়েছিলাম! সেই একই রকম বাজে বোকা, প্রাণ খুলে হাসাহাসি করা, আর শেষে বলা,চারপাশে সব কিছুই কেমন বদলে যাচ্ছে, কিন্তু আমরা একই আছি, আর আবার সেই হাসির জোয়ারে কিছুখন গা ভাসিয়ে দেওয়া!
This year, at the end of June, I was in Kolkata! As the monsoon began in Kolkata, my neighbourhood aunties and friends (amar parar kakima aar boudi ra mile) came together for a cozy Khichuri dinner and Adda. We kicked things off with juicy jackfruit, fish chops, and plenty of laughter over old memories. Dinner was a delicious spread—khichuri, begun bhaja, dimer jhuri, payesh, and mishti!
Found these photos today and instantly relived the love, food, and laughter. Can’t wait for Facebook to remind me of this memory again in a few years!

Durga Puja Parikrama in Melbourne 2026!

As the weather is getting better, warmer, brighter and shinier, we Bengalis living in Melbourne are not only experiencing spring, but we can also smell the “Pujor Gondho” in the sky! Our biggest annual festival, Durga Pujo, is coming, and we are all excited about Pujo Parikrama.

How easy would it be if we had a list with an interactive map, dates, venues, and all the Pujo-related must-know information in one place?

Last year, this journey started as a simple blog post, and the response we got encouraged us to take it further! This year, we’re launching a dedicated page powered by an AI agent that gathers and shares all the Durga Puja info you need to celebrate community pujo. “FEELING THE UNLIVED” is an exhibition that brings rare photographs of 1940s Bombay, organised by Reshmi Lahiri Roy and curated by Dr Deepa Ram

I’ve never set foot in Bombay (now Mumbai), but the city has always fascinated me. Maybe it’s the Bollywood magic, tales of old Iranian cafes, or the pull of Parsi and Maharashtrian cuisines. I live for memories as much as moments, and I love wandering down memory lane. We Bengalis share a sweet bond with Maya Nagri, so when Reshmi Di invited me to this exhibition, I felt truly honoured. If you want to live through the experiences and memories of 1940s Mumbai for an evening or two, then come along to the “FEELING THE UNLIVED” exhibition on the 3rd and 4th of October!
