Meet Neil – One of the Friendly Faces Behind Gourmet Guru Catering! 😊

If you've attended one of our Discounted Community Catering Program lunches or dinners, chances are you've been welcomed with a smile by Neil.

Neil is one of our fantastic wait staff who specialises in looking after our community catering events. Whether he's serving a delicious two-course meal, helping guests with their dietary requirements, clearing plates or simply stopping for a chat, Neil has a wonderful way of making everyone feel welcome.

It's often the little things that make the biggest difference, and Neil's friendly nature, patience and genuine care never go unnoticed. We regularly receive lovely comments from guests about the service he provides.

Despite the name, not every rum ball actually contains rum! 😲

Many traditional recipes use just a splash for flavour, while others are made completely alcohol-free using rum essence instead.

One thing's for sure... whether they're made with rum or not, they're always one of the first treats to disappear from our cakes and slices boxes and platters! 😋

Behind every event is a team that's passionate about creating amazing food and making every celebration as seamless as possible.

Together, we bring over 100 years of combined hospitality experience to every event.

👩‍🍳 Sonia founded Gourmet Guru Catering in 2019 after more than 40 years as a chef, with a career spanning five-star hotels, fine dining, corporate catering and hospitality management. Her passion for fresh produce, innovative menus and attention to detail is the heart of everything we do.

✈️ Chris has over 40 years of customer service and planning experience from the travel industry. From your first enquiry through to delivery, he makes sure every detail is taken care of. He's also our spit roast master, delivery driver and chief pot washer! 😉

👨‍🍳 Chef Darryn joined Gourmet Guru in late 2024, bringing another 40 years of international culinary experience. From leading kitchens in Melbourne and London to catering aboard luxury yachts and running his own catering business, his creativity and expertise help ensure every menu is spot on.

Operating from our registered Manningham Council kitchen, we've proudly maintained a Five-Star Food Safety Award for eight consecutive years, earned 245+ five-star Google reviews, and built a reputation for quality, service and food that people remember.

Most importantly, we're a proud family business that genuinely loves being part of your special moments and the community.

🎄 Our Christmas in July Community Catering Program is in full swing, and our hearts are full. ❤️

So far this season, we've had the privilege of catering for so many wonderful community groups, bringing people together over a traditional roast meal and our much-loved sticky date pudding with warm salted caramel sauce.

Seeing friends reconnect, hearing the laughter around the tables, and knowing we've played a small part in creating those special moments is what it's all about.

Behind every successful event is an incredible amount of planning, preparation and teamwork. Every menu is carefully considered, every delivery timed to perfection, every platter packed with precision, and every detail checked (and then checked again!).

With over 100 years of combined catering experience between our chefs and kitchen team, we've learnt that the best events don't happen by chance—they happen because of careful planning and genuine passion for what we do.

And of course, with Chris at the helm of all the correspondence, keeping everyone informed, organised and on track, you can relax knowing your event is in experienced hands from your very first enquiry through to the final pack down.
