DOGS. AT. WEDDINGS. šŸ¶šŸ’

I recently chatted with Michelle, the owner of Pawfect Weddings, about all things wedding dogs — from aisle walks and zoomies to emotional support Labradors lying across bridal gowns šŸ˜‚

If you’re dreaming of including your dog in your wedding day, you might get something out of my interview on the Pawfect Weddings website, where I shared my best tips, including:
🐾 preparing your dog for the day
🐾 choosing roles that suit their personality
🐾 deciding whether you need a dog chaperone
🐾 having backup plans (because dogs gonna dog)

I love what Pawfect Weddings are doing because they focus on the real-life practical side of having dogs at weddings — not just the cute photos.
They’re not a pet chaperone service. Pawfect Weddings is a resource, education and guidance website for couples who want to include their dogs when planning their wedding day.

I’ve only touched the surface with my article— they also have articles on engagement shoots, bucks parties, dog wedding attire by breed and size, and so much more.

One of the most special parts of being a celebrant is the feedback I receive from my couples.

I’m incredibly grateful for the thoughtful, often long and heartfelt reviews — the kind that come with photos and words that stay with me long after the wedding day.

But sometimes, before a review even arrives, I get a message that means just as much.

An email the morning after the wedding. A text from the airport on the way to the honeymoon.

At that point, there’s such a strong connection already formed — we’ve shared something really significant together.

I never take that lightly.

Being part of someone’s wedding is a huge privilege, and I’m always grateful to be trusted with such an important moment in their lives.

What really makes a wedding ceremony feel special isn’t just organisation or experience — it’s connection.

After years as a celebrant, I’ve learned that what matters most on a wedding day is how people feel.

Some people call it my ā€œIrish charmā€ — that natural warmth I bring into every interaction. It helps me read the room, put people at ease, and create ceremonies that feel genuine, relaxed, and full of heart.

Because when people feel comfortable, the ceremony becomes something truly memorable — not just something that’s performed, but something that’s felt.

A very lovely surprise to receive the 2026 Quality Business Awards Australia recognition for Best Celebrant in Newcastle, NSW (for the second year in a row).

Their evaluation looks at customer reviews, consistency, responsiveness, community contribution, and overall excellence — all the behind-the-scenes things I quietly work hard on every day.

Feeling very thankful for the beautiful couples and families who continue to support my business.

Ceremony delivery isn’t about being a better performer — it’s about being more present.

If you’re a celebrant who wants to improve ceremony delivery skills, feel calmer on the day, and hold ceremonies with confidence and ease, this work is learnable.

I mentor celebrants in the craft of delivery — not just what to say, but how to say it, how to hold the room, and how to lead when things go off-script.

DM me if you are curious about getting a celebrant mentor

ā€œJulie was absolutely amazing and made our day so perfect for us. We wanted something
simple and intimate, and she delivered exactly that, but somehow made it feel so incredibly
beautiful and special at the same time.

She put so much care and effort into making sure everything felt right, and she made us feel
completely comfortable from start to finish. We honestly couldn’t have asked for a better
celebrant.

Thank you so much Julie ā€

At the end of Andrea + Nathan’s ceremony in their Hamilton home, there was no grand exit. No confetti. No big planned moment.

So I made one.

I invited their witnesses in… and suddenly we were all wrapped up in this big, (semi) spontaneous group hug.

And in the middle of all of that joy, we cracked open some UDLs—Guava, Lime and Vodka, Double Crush 8%—because why not? šŸ¹

We laughed, we hugged, we toasted.

We were all completely there, sharing something real.

These are the moments I love most. The ones that sit around the ceremony itself. The ones you can’t really script (but, from experience, I do know how to gently engineer them).

Afterwards, I kissed them goodbye, and Andrea + Nathan popped on their slides and headed out for lunch like a couple of legends who had just casually gotten married in their living room before midday.

They even invited me along—but I had another ceremony to write. So I left full of oxytocin… and very well hydrated by UDL.

I’ve shared their full story on my blog ✨

Not Every Love Story Needs a Winery (And That’s the Point)

I have so many incredible weddings I’ve been meaning to share from the last few years… and honestly, the backlog has been quietly haunting me šŸ˜…

But I’ve decided—I’m just going to start.

I’ve heard the marketing advice: only post your fanciest weddings. The idea being you’ll attract more of the same.

But that’s never really sat right with me.

Because I’m just as proud of the little weddings as I am of the big, high-end, styled ones. And I feel just as connected to couples planning something simple and quick as I do to those planning for over a year.

So… here we go.

I spend a lot of my weekends in the Hunter Valley, surrounded by vineyards, long tables, and beautifully styled weddings.

And I LOVE them. I really do love getting dressed up.

Big celebrations, big energy, big dance floors… it’s very much my bread and butter.

But during the week, I get to be part of something completely different—short, sweet, and beautifully low-key weddings. Legals-only, registry-style, elopements, micro-weddings… whatever you want to call them.

Andrea + Nathan’s wedding wasn’t at a venue.

It was at their home in Hamilton.

No big setup.
No styling team.
No professional photographer (although I did try to convince them!)

Just the two of them, Andrea’s sister and brother-in-law as witnesses… and their dog Rambo, who was very clearly the VIP of the day 🐾

Andrea was barefoot. Nathan was in socks.

Both in oversized tees and casual clothes like it was any other day… except it wasn’t.

Because this was the day they got married.

It felt exactly how a wedding should feel—comfortable, relaxed. No pressure.

Just a couple standing in their own living room, making one of the biggest commitments of their lives in a way that actually felt right to them.

And honestly? It was perfect.

If you’ve ever wondered what a simple, at-home wedding can feel like… I’ve shared their full story on my blog linked below ✨

NEW NSW COMMEMORATIVE MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE šŸŒæšŸ¦‹ā

That was 3 posts in a row all about ME. Time to get back to posting about weddings.

Most of the couples I marry choose the standard marriage certificate from BDM NSW (currently $68) — because that’s the one you’ll need for all the official grown-up stuff like: changing your surname, buying a house and, well… getting divorced (but let’s not manifest that).

BUT… if you also want something a little more beautiful to keep, frame, or pop in a memory box, BDM NSW has a range of commemorative certificate designs too and honestly, some of them are gorgeous.

The newest one is called Botanical 170 Years 🌸
And she is very pretty.

It features painted butterflies and bright native botanicals inspired by the work of pioneering Australian natural history artists Harriet and Helena Scott and Ellis Rowan.

It’s part of the 170th Anniversary Limited Edition Collection, created in partnership with the State Library of NSW, and includes a special commemorative seal to mark the Registry’s 170-year anniversary.

Cost: $98. That price also includes your standard official marriage certificate, so you’re getting both.

Good to know:
After your wedding, either you or your celebrant can order your marriage certificate(s), so it’s always worth checking how your celebrant handles that part.

I’m always happy to order it for my couples without charging an admin fee — I just add the certificate cost to the final invoice and sort it all for you.

One less thing on your post-wedding to-do list āœ”ā

Would you go the classic standard cert… or splurge on the pretty one? šŸ‘€ā

I recently did the Myers-Briggs personality test again and apparently I’ve become a completely different woman.
The last time I did it, I got ESTJ.
This time? INFJ.
Which means I’ve changed in 3 out of the 4 main categories… so either I’ve evolved, unmasked, unravelled, or the pseudoscience is not to be trusted.

To be fair, I do feel more introverted these days than extroverted… but introvert still doesn’t feel like the full story either.

Then my friend Monty introduced me to a word I’d never heard before:
OTROVERT.
It explains me beautifully.

Apparently an otrovert is someone who:
🩷 can be sociable, charming, chatty and absolutely delightful.....but then needs 7-10 business days to recover from a cowboy disco wedding
🧔 craves connection one day and wants to fake their own disappearance the next
🩷 would rather discuss your childhood wounds than talk about the weather
🧔 is selective about who gets access to their energy
🩷 can detect fake vibes with an attuned bu****it radar
🧔 and may absolutely cancel plans last minute because the version of them that agreed to it was operating under completely different emotional conditions

So… yes.
I know lots of people.
I like lots of people.
But I only have the bandwidth to properly 'people' with a chosen few.

Anyway, if you’ve ever felt too social to be a proper introvert but too people-fatigued to be an extrovert… maybe you’re an otrovert too. Apparently otroverts are high in the neurodivergent community. A confusing but elite category.

Please tell me I’m not alone in this šŸ˜‚ā
