A couple of months on from the 11th Australian Wildflower Conference, and I’m still so grateful for this experience…
I was incredibly honoured to be selected as one of six recipients of the Young Grower Scholarship. I knew the opportunity would have an impact on my horticulture and floristry journey, but I don’t think I realised just how much I would take away from it.
The farm tours were definitely a highlight. As a florist, I’m so used to seeing flowers once they reach the wholesale market, so getting to visit the farms, meet the growers and see what goes on behind the scenes gave me a whole new appreciation for the journey of the flowers I get to work with.
But my favourite part would have to be the people. I loved connecting with others in the industry, hearing their stories and learning from their experiences. Everyone was so down-to-earth (no pun intended 😂🧑🌾) and incredibly generous with their knowledge. There was no gatekeeping, just people genuinely willing to share what they’ve learnt along the way.
I definitely won’t take this opportunity for granted. I came home feeling inspired to keep learning, keep growing in floristry and of course, keep my thumbs green 🌱
One thing Craig Musson said has particularly stuck with me:
“Say yes and learn quickly.”
And I think that’s something I’ll keep carrying with me. 🌷
