The Lights of Lobethal is a long-running, community-run Christmas lights festival in the town of Lobethal (Adelaide Hills, 35–40 km from Adelaide). It’s reputed to be the largest community Christmas light display in the Southern Hemisphere. The festival has roots back to the 1950s what began as small light displays has grown into a major Adelaide Hills Christmas tradition. 
When & Where
• Dates: 12 December 2025 to 22 December 2025 inclusive. 
• Time to view lights: From dusk each evening — often best viewed after sunset (traditionally around 8:30 pm for full effect). 
• Location: The displays are all across Lobethal — homes and businesses decorate their houses and the town’s streets/laneways. 
🌟 What’s On / Festival Highlights
When you attend, there’s a lot more than just lights. Here’s the main lineup for 2025: 
Community Lights Display / Lights Trail - homes and businesses decorated; you can drive or walk through town to see spectacular light displays the “Christmas-lights trail.” 
Centennial Hall Christmas Markets daily/nightly markets (from 13 Dec “til about 24 Dec), with crafts, gifts, local goods great for picking up handmade or festive presents. 
Living Nativity From 14 Dec nightly — a traditional re-enactment of the Christmas story with animals, live performers, etc. (shows at ~8:50 pm & 9:20 pm). 
Carols in the Valley- Evening carol concert scheduled for Sunday 14 Dec 2025. A lovely option if you enjoy live music and carols in a community setting. 
A Triumphant Christmas- Concert evenings (19, 20 & 21 December 2025) at the local church — brass, percussion & pipe organ music plus festive favourites. Great if you enjoy music with Christmas atmosphere. 
Food, Eats & Local Business Support - the town’s eateries, cafés, pubs and food vendors open for dinner or snacks a good idea to grab food first, then enjoy the lights. 
Charming, Family Friendly Atmosphere with lights displays, markets, Nativity scenes, music and more the festival caters for all ages: families, couples, groups. 
✅ Tips for Visiting
• Best time: From dusk (after sunset) — around & after 8:30 pm tends to give the best light-show effect. 
• Arrive early & grab dinner before the lights: Lobethal’s eateries are open, it’s smart to eat first, then stroll/drive the lights when it’s dark and busy. 
• Parking & traffic: Especially on busy nights start at top of town (e.g. near the bakery or other upstream parking) and walk down if possible for easier parking.
