We debated if we should post, education won.
We dont want to be the people that only show roses. We want to be the people that talk about warts and all. This is parrot life and we would never give it up.
Let's say 1st and foremost this is why we reserve the right to choose the birds suitable for any performance. Doing shows require trust and knowledge that goes beyond a normal birds temperament it requires assessment of their mood on the day of the show.
As handlers and their human companions we know our birds and while we may push a limit in a controlled environment this is never a risk for the public.
Tonight while trying to entertain a hormonal Apollo, Nathan had a laps of judgement with Luna.
No bird was hurt but Nathan did require 3 stitchers in his ear.
What we practice as a team is control the environment so the bird feels safe at all times, what happened tonight was a laps in judgement where Apollo was beining hormonal and Luna did not feel safe and lashed out at the closest thing. 'Nathan's ear'
What we normally protect against is various humans overstepping boundaries but its not abnormal for us to protect various birds against other more excited birds in the show environment. Our birds know we protect them, it is the basis of the trust they have in every environment we take them into.
Tonight Nathan misread the situation and ended up needing some medical attention.
It could of been alot worse if he did not know what to do,
Please always remember these are wild animals, they will behave as wild animals when their learnt behaviours do not do as expected.
