Field Notes ~ week twenty two ✨
After about 5 weeks of constant rain, winter has finally arrived at the start of week 23 and I couldn’t be more grateful. Sunshine, chilly mornings (5 degrees today!) and hopefully some good weather to get some work done in the paddock.
Last week was definitely tough, we had over 100mls in a week, most of which fell on Thursday and caused the paddock to flood again. I’ve been closely watching all my freshly planted seedlings to see if they will survive the wet and root rot. Luckily, most seem to be okay so far, with just a few plants here and there rotting out.
With such little daylight and so much moisture things aren’t looking as good as I had hoped but some sunshine, fertiliser, and a few days work in the paddock this week should turn things around again 🤞
In the last few weeks I’ve planted lace, cornflower, stock, statice, poppies & sweet peas. I can’t wait to see them bloom! In the greenhouse, I’ve got a few more late trays to head out before the solstice including more cornflower, snaps, lace, forget me nots, scabious, and more. It’s all coming together to hopefully be a beautiful spring! I’ve also been deep into crop planning for next season and I just can’t wait to hopefully double my growing space again and get lots of gorgeous blooms into the world 🥰
This week my jobs are weeding, finishing flipping the last 2 beds ready for delphinium plugs, and hopefully if the ground dries out building some more beds 🤞 Join me in the paddock on stories today to see what I get up to 🌱
Hope you all are settling into a beautiful wintery week 🥰
