This one has been a LONG time coming

This gorgeous client first came to me back in January 2025 with hair that was far too compromised to safely colour again. So we played the long game — toner appointments, gentle maintenance and giving her hair the time it needed before even considering lightening again.

She'd wanted to hold onto as much length as possible, so we'd been maintaining it with regular trims along the way. But this appointment, she was finally ready for a change... and honestly, it was time.

We carefully added highlights and lowlights to bring some beautiful dimension back into her hair, followed by a good chop to remove those tired, compromised ends.

And LOOK at the difference! 😍

Her hair looks SO much thicker, fuller and healthier.

Sometimes getting to the hair you want takes patience... but this one was absolutely worth the wait!

This is the news you've all been waiting for...

Blend Atelier & The Rusty Blade Barber are officially open in our NEW SALON!

We (and several others) have worked our butts off for the last 3 weeks to pull this space together and make it beautiful for all our amazing clients. We still have a few finishing touches to do but are now taking clients at our new location.

This simply wouldn't have happened without all the hands who offered help, and all the ones who got roped in against their will. We appreciate you all more than you know!

I often get asked "how do you know they're ready?" or "what are you looking for when you check them?"

It really depends on the desired end result; if we are wanting bright blonde, we want to see it looking like the inside of a banana. Slightly warmer and darker will be a medium blonde and the warmer and darker it is obviously the darker the result will be.

The warmth goes in our favour for colours like a bright honey blonde, warm natural blondes, coppers and reds.

If we are aiming for a cooler tone, we then need to work to counteract that warmth just the right way to achieve a cool ashy blonde or even a natural medium blonde/brown.

A little refinement can make all the difference

This gorgeous colour came to me with an existing foil service that had been created elsewhere. Although her foils were harsh and blocky (I didn't get photos of this), the goal wasn't to completely change the colour or start from scratch — it was to refine what was already there and bring it closer to the soft, lived-in balayage my client was after.

She loves warmth and wanted those beautiful pops of caramel through her hair, with a softer grow-out and less of a traditional foiled look.

I used a balayage (hand painting) technique to selectively brighten and soften sections of the existing colour, working with the hair rather than trying to completely overhaul it. From there, we used a root colour deeper, warmer toner to bring everything together and create a much more seamless finish.

The result is subtle, dimensional and incredibly soft — exactly the kind of colour that gets better as it grows out. 🤎

Sometimes colour doesn't need a dramatic change. Sometimes it just needs the right refinement, placement and tone.

And this was such a fun one for me because it was my first time in a while using balayage — and I absolutely loved it.

Another STUNNING copper

I so enjoyed working with this incredible head of hair.

We added a gorgeous blended money piece (face framing foils) and refreshed her beautiful copper colour, making it a little bit richer and all the more stunning.
