What makes a place stand out often begins with the people behind it.

Hobart chef Christian Ryan has been named Gourmet Traveller’s 2026 Chef of the Year — recognition for a career grounded in creativity, generosity and a deep connection to food and place.

At Aløft Restaurant and Restaurant Maria, that perspective comes to life on Hobart’s waterfront through seasonal Tasmanian produce, bold influences and hospitality designed to feel warm, relaxed and personal.

For delegates, it is more than dinner.

It is a chance to slow down, gather around the table and experience Tasmania through the people, flavours and stories behind it.

Country Club Tasmania is preparing to unveil a new championship golf experience in Launceston — and the BET team had the opportunity to experience an early test run.

Tasmania is already firmly established on the global golfing map, with two courses ranked among the world’s top 100 and three of Australia’s top four. From dramatic coastal links to courses set within easy reach of city centers, our island state is a golfer's paradise.

Now, Country Club Tasmania is adding a new dimension to the state’s golf offering with a championship parklands-style course.

Designed by renowned golf architect Robin Gibson, the 18-hole, par 72 championship course winds through mature trees, waterways and sculpted fairways, creating a distinctly Tasmanian experience designed to complement the courses that have already put the state on the golfing map.

For conferences, incentives and groups, it adds another compelling reason to bring a program to Launceston. Guests can move easily between meetings, accommodation and dining, then take to the championship course, enjoy a more casual golf experience at the driving range, or come together over cocktails and dinner — all within the one resort.

Marine BioConnect 2026 began today, bringing some of Australia’s leading minds in marine innovation together in Tasmania to explore how opportunity can be translated into real-world impact.

Hosted by the Marine Bioproducts CRC, the two-day event explores the latest developments in marine production, processing and product innovation, while connecting delegates with Tasmania’s research and industry expertise through visits to CSIRO and IMAS.

Krystal represented our team this morning, as BET Visionary Sam Elsom joined the session “From Opportunity to Impact”. As Managing Director and Co-Founder of Sea Forest Australia, Sam shared his experience turning Tasmanian marine innovation into solutions for one of agriculture’s biggest climate challenges.

It’s a strong example of what our Visionary Program is designed to do — connecting Tasmania’s key industry leaders with business events to create a lasting impact.

We are proud to support the event through the Business Events Attraction Fund, supported by the Tasmanian Government through Building Tasmania.

On Tasmania’s East Coast, incentive programs are shaped by the coastline, the produce, the people and the sense of space that invites everyone to slow down.

Saffire Freycinet's newest offering, The Saffire Jewel, adds a distinctive new layer to that experience. Designed for up to eight guests, the private three-bedroom villa includes a dedicated concierge team, private chef, in-residence dining, an 18-metre heated infinity pool and panoramic views across Oyster Bay.

Opening later in the year, it’s an exceptional extension to the 20 villas connected to the main lodge. Its real significance lies in what it makes possible across the wider East Coast — more privacy, more personalisation and more meaningful ways to connect to this special part of the world, to each other and to the experiences that stay with them.

Regional dispersal is an important part of our growth strategy at Business Events Tasmania, so it was fantastic to bring our Board together on the North West Coast this week.

Business events create benefits that extend well beyond the event itself — supporting local businesses, connecting delegates with the communities that make Tasmania distinctive, and giving them more reasons to explore our island.

A big thank you to Roger Jaensch MP and Katherine Morgan-Wicks PSM for joining us and sharing your time, and to the paranaple convention centre for hosting us.

In Tasmania, the reward is in the access. Within hours of arrival, delegates are soaring by seaplane into remote wilderness, dining on seafood harvested straight from the ocean, sipping sparkling with globally-renowned winemakers, playing a World Top 100 golf course, encountering Tasmanian Devils after dark, or sharing Indigenous stories beneath some of the world's clearest night skies.

Tasmania delivers a more intimate and curated style of luxury – rich in character, story and space.

Hobart has more scientists per capita than any other Australian city. So it makes sense that each August, science takes over the city for Beaker Street Festival.

City of Hobart and the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery are at the heart of the festival, with events and experiences stretching across Tasmania.

A few examples? Gourmet mushrooms growing inside a former railway tunnel at Tunnel Hill Mushrooms. A behind-the-scenes look at seaweed innovation at Sea Forest. Astronomy paired with Tasmanian food and wine at Frogmore Creek.

For event organisers planning a winter program, it’s another way to connect delegates with Tasmania’s science, industries and people.

You’ll feel like you are floating on the water at Hobart’s newest hotel.

The BET team visited Citadines Elizabeth Street Pier in Hobart, and you’re instantly drawn to the view. Every room looks out over the water along with its own private outdoor space.

Our team sees the 98-studio property as a particularly strong option for the corporate market, with many of Hobart’s meeting venues, restaurants and attractions all within easy walking distance.

It’s an exciting addition to Hobart’s accommodation offering for business events.
