ELLA HOOPER - MUSICIAN OF THE MONTH - OCTOBER 2026
In this interview with our Musician of the Month for October, Melbourne-based singer-songwriter Ella Hooper discusses her new album Overnight Success (out Oct 2), a record that marks a significant evolution in her songwriting and artistic identity. While Hooper has spent more than 25 years making music, the album embraces a distinctly country, Americana and roots-oriented sound, reflecting her long-standing love of those genres and a growing confidence in storytelling and lyrical songwriting. The album's title is deliberately ironic. The title track plays with the idea of Hooper's own seemingly instant rise to fame as a teenager with Killing Heidi, while acknowledging that genuine artistic longevity is anything but an "overnight success." Hooper reflects on the fantasy of becoming a rock star alongside the compromises, pressures and darker realities that come with public life. Watch Ella Hooper's interview with Australian Musician editor Greg Phillips here. Thanks to Studio 52 / Empire Music Studios for the location and Jason Rosewarne Photography for the fab pics.
