I haven’t used floral foam in over 5 years.

Back when I trained as a florist in tafe (over 10 years ago now!) we were taught to use floral foam for all base medium designs - anything within a box or container, arbour designs, ceiling installations, casket sprays, centrepieces, you name it and it was probably created into floral foam. The stores I worked for would go through boxes upon boxes of the stuff and If you’d asked me back then I couldn’t imagine how to design without it.

Yet here we are, all this time later, and I honestly DO NOT miss it. Learning to design without floral foam was a huge learning curve (there wasn’t any training available and “eco florists” to learn from were few and far between) but I stuck with my conviction and it’s made me such a better designer. There’s no single product that can replace floral foam - each design requires its own unique solution and mechanics. Designing sustainably means designing with great thought and intention in everything you create.

I ditched floral foam in 2019 for my health and the environment but in doing so I discovered a new found love of designing and a whole new skill set.

I’m back in the office again this week after a much needed break over the Christmas holidays. 🥰 Feeling refreshed and ready to go for the year ahead!

Hello to all my lovely followers! It’s been a little while since I properly introduced myself so here I am! This picture was taken a few years back after a wedding set up accompanied by my two big girls, and we now have a cheerful little boy added to the mix. I’m a wife, mother, Christian, florist, and owner of this business!

If you’re familiar with the “16 personality types” I’m a INFJ; I love people, am deep thinking and feeling, and love a good cause to support! I’m passionate about reducing our footprint on the planet in both personal and business life; I made the commitment to make Ivy Trails floral foam free back in 2019 and haven’t looked back. I love the challenge of coming up with the perfect mechanics for every design and am continually growing and learning as an eco florist. Since becoming a mother I have also become deeply passionate about the birthing world and our beautiful private/homebirth midwives in the Hawkesbury and Blue Mountains. I hope one day to join them but that’s a future dream right now.

I love gardening, baking, cooking, and preserving and would love to have my own expansive gardens/micro farm one day. With a flock of chickens of course! And with it I would love to have my own little library filled with favourite books collected over a lifetime.

Professionally I hold both certificates 3 and 4 in floristry, and started my journey as a florist 12 years ago. This business is my passion project that both brings me immense joy and helps support our little family.
