For anyone travelling to India….you absolutely need a driver!….I can’t speak more highly of this beautiful man, Lalit. He drove us across 3 provinces in 10 days constantly supplied us with drinks, snacks, guides in various locations and would drive you out to dinner and back home….nothing was ever a problem…always happy, always grateful, so kind. Despite the Constitution prohibiting caste discrimination and “untouchability” in India the caste remains a powerful social and family system, particularly around marriage, family connections, community and sometimes where people live and socialise. We were told it’s still very real in rural areas especially, however, nowadays, despite arranged marriages still being more common than not, the bride or groom are given the right to agree or disagree to the proposed union.
