He’s back…. 🍸
Some of you would be aware that Nathan was diagnosed with stage 3 Melanoma in January what alot of you wouldn’t know is the personal battle our family faced earlier this year.
Immunotherapy caused his immune system to attack his healthy joints and muscles, leaving him in debilitating pain and completely dependent on me at times. When his tumours continued to grow, surgery was brought forward and on April 7th, Nathan had 10 tumours and all 27 lymph nodes removed from under his arm.
And because apparently cancer wasn’t enough… while Nathan was in hospital, a pipe burst upstairs at home, flooding the house and collapsing the ceilings in our kids’ bedrooms and office. Our home was deemed unliveable.
This isn’t a pity post.
It’s a thank you post to the incredible family, friends, wedding industry and community who stepped in when we simply couldn’t do it all. To those who helped with my weddings, salvaged our belongings, supported our kids, fed us, checked in and showed kindness when we were at our most vulnerable — we will never forget it. 🤍
It’s a reality check that “in sickness and in health, in good times and bad” can suddenly become very real.
It’s an awareness post — GET YOUR SKIN CHECKED and listen to your body. Nathan’s primary melanoma was never found on his skin. We were initially told the lump wasn’t cancer and had to keep pushing for answers. Your body knows when something isn’t right.
And it’s also me acknowledging that, for a while, I dropped the ball with the business. Enquiries were missed, emails went unanswered and social media disappeared. My husband’s health and my kids needed everything I had — and I had nothing left to give anywhere else.
But now…
He’s back❤️
Nathan isn’t completely in the clear, but he is doing amazing. Stage 3 of treatment has started in the form of targeted therapy for a year and so far he is handling it incredibly well.
Most importantly he is ready to get back behind the bar doing what he loves.
Wedding season kicks off for us this weekend and after the year we have had we are keen to be back in the thick of weddings.
