Its a bit of a read, but hopefully an explanation and raising awareness about FND. I was diagnosed with Functional Neurological Disorder last July after a month in hospital, including 10days in RBWH. I have been doing my best but unable to keep my shop open. Best explanation of FND from a person in our messenger support group...
"It’s best to understand that the brain is constantly rewiring and renewing the connections in your brain. The problem is that for people with FND, the new connections are usually connected to the wrong parts of the central nervous system from the brain. Unfortunately it’s something that simple that can cause such huge problems. And because the brain is constantly changing these connections yet in people with FND getting it wrong that’s why your symptoms and problems keep changing and fluctuating.
FND is simply a flaw in the way that your brain rewrites its connections between its nerve endings . Because it gets the details about what is connected to what wrong."
Symptoms can affect all parts of the body including paralysis, tics, tremmors, seisures, nerve pain, vision, stutter and/or non-verbal, cognitive function, altered sensation, swallowing issues, digestive/bowel/bladder issues. I have all these, they fluctuate, good days, bad days, good hours bad hours. Some Symptoms constant, some come and go, some just vary in severity.
April is FND awareness month. Approximately .0005% of the general population has this condition. It sucks. It sucks whem people judge you as being drunk or on drugs because of uncontrollable physical symptoms, slurred speech and brain fog. raise and send some love to all those living with this and their families xx thanks for reading ❤️ Especially thanks to my wonderful Morris my amazing kids and all my family and friends who have surrounded me with all the love and support. I'm not sure I'd be here without you. Xx
