🏉 That’s a wrap on Community Football for 2026!

Congratulations to all the clubs, players, leagues, umpires and incredible volunteers who helped make this season such a fantastic year for community football. 👏

A huge congratulations to all the 2026 Premiership winners! 🏆 While there can only be one winner on the day, every club and player should be proud of the commitment, effort and passion they’ve shown throughout the season.

We’re looking forward to celebrating even more great stories, achievements and moments from community football in 2027.

Today’s guest is a true gentleman of country football — a player who developed later than most, overcame serious health challenges, and went on to become one of the very best country footballers Australia has ever seen.

A five-time League Best & Fairest, a winner of multiple Club Best & Fairest awards, an Interleague and State representative, and someone who has tested himself against some of the highest-level community competitions in Australia.

His achievements speak for themselves — but perhaps one of the greatest honours is having a Club Best & Fairest award named in his honour, a lasting recognition of the impact he has had on the game and the people around him.

His story is one of resilience, determination, talent and an incredible love for football.

It’s a name many across country football will know — and a name many will remember for generations to come.

A league and state representative. Multiple league and club Best & Fairest winner. A premiership player.
He’s played in the SANFL, ventured north to the NTFL, and eventually finished his career at Sea Lake.
But perhaps most importantly, he was one of the finest ruckmen country Victoria has ever produced.

Today, we’re joined by someone who has played a huge role in the growth and development of women’s football, particularly across Central Victoria.

From playing her junior football in Gisborne, to becoming a foundation player and captain of the Bendigo Thunder, Emma Grant went on to realise a dream of playing AFLW, becoming a foundation player and vice-captain of Collingwood and playing 20 games at the highest level.

But Emma’s contribution to football didn’t stop when her playing career finished.

Since hanging up the boots, she has built an impressive coaching career, working through the Bendigo Pioneers and Victoria Country pathways, coaching and mentoring the next generation of female footballers and helping create opportunities for women to transition from players into coaches.

She has also been recognised nationally for her coaching, including receiving the AFL Coaches Association Women’s Coaching Pathway Scholarship, before moving into an AFLW development coaching role with Richmond.

But perhaps what makes Emma’s story so special is the impact she has had beyond the elite level , helping grow the game, develop people and provide opportunities for young women across Central Victoria.

This is a fantastic story about football, leadership, opportunity and giving back to the game.

From starting her football journey in the juniors at Gisborne, to playing community football with Bendigo Thunder, Emma’s journey took a huge step forward when she heard her name called in the draft for the inaugural AFLW season with the Collingwood Football Club.

A true powerhouse of the women’s game, Emma brings an enormous amount of knowledge and experience, along with a genuine passion for seeing women’s football continue to grow.

Her journey, insight and contribution make her a wonderful asset to the game and someone who has played an important role in the growth of women’s football.
