Holdfast Insurance Brokers Renews Gawler Cup Partnership 🏇

We’re delighted to announce that Holdfast Insurance Brokers has renewed its sponsorship agreement with the Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club for a further three years, continuing as the Naming Rights Sponsor of the Gawler Cup.

This means the Holdfast Insurance Brokers Gawler Cup will return in 2026, continuing a partnership that has been an important part of the event since 2017.

The Gawler & Barossa Jobs Expo will open a window into one of SA’s most visible, practical and people-powered industries: thoroughbred racing.

A highlight of the day will be a stable tour hosted thanks to Clare Lindop, champion jockey and Racing SA's Industry Development and Training Manager. The tour will give visitors a behind-the-scenes look at the morning routines, skills and teamwork that underpin racing life, from horse care and stable operations through to trackwork, welfare and race day preparation.

Following Racing SA's update, we'd like to thank our members, trainers, participants, sponsors, staff and the wider racing community for their ongoing support throughout this challenging period.

Over recent months, the Gawler & Barossa Jockey Club has worked closely with Racing SA and independent specialists to undertake extensive investigations into the underlying causes of the issues affecting our racing surface. Those investigations have now provided clear evidence of the causes and more importantly, a defined path forward.

With the investigation phase now complete, our focus has shifted to implementing the recommended works. This includes continuing drainage investigations, improving irrigation water quality and undertaking turf remediation, while planning for the permanent drainage reconstruction during the summer growing season.

We'd also like to acknowledge the dedication of our staff, who have worked tirelessly alongside Racing SA and independent specialists throughout this process. Their commitment to identifying the underlying causes and working towards long-term solutions has been invaluable.

While we would have preferred to return to racing during August, we are committed to completing the necessary works to deliver a stronger, safer and more sustainable racing surface for the future.

We look forward to welcoming everyone back to the Sportsbet Gawler Racecourse for a full program of racing throughout spring and summer. Thank you for your patience, understanding and continued support as we work towards a stronger future for racing at Gawler.

The horses may have been transferred to Morphettville, but thanks to approval being granted, our on-course TAB will be operating this Saturday! So you can still enjoy a day at the races with all the action from Morphettville while having a punt right here at Sportsbet Gawler Racecourse.

We are disappointed to advise that, following an inspection of the track today, Racing SA Stewards have made the decision to transfer this Saturday's race meeting (11 July) to Morphettville due to the recent heavy rainfall.

While we are incredibly disappointed that racing will no longer take place at Sportsbet Gawler Racecourse, we have decided to still open our doors for those who would still like to join us.

Our Christmas in July lunch will still go ahead, the bar will be open, and we'll be broadcasting all of the live racing from Morphettville on the big screens throughout the venue. While we won't have horses racing on our track, we'd love to welcome you for a great afternoon of food, drinks and racing.

Racing SA wishes to advise that following an inspection by a Racing SA Steward this morning, the races scheduled for Gawler on Saturday 11th July have been transferred to Morphettville Parks due to the condition of sections of the track following rainfall in the last 48 hours.
