✨ The Wedding Lasso Ritual ✨
I had the absolute pleasure of being introduced to this beautiful tradition at Marines and Alex’s wedding recently… and oh my goodness, it is so meaningful. I’ve only done it once, but I fell head‑over‑heels for it.

A wedding lasso (often a rosary or a floral rope) is gently placed around the couple in a figure‑eight shape, a symbol of unity, protection and the sacred bond of marriage. It’s like saying: we’re linked, we’re supported, and we’re stepping forward together.

It comes from Latinx and Filipino cultures, and it creates the most tender moment in a ceremony. Usually two loved ones place the lasso over your shoulders, giving them a special role without putting them in the spotlight.

It’s intimate.
It’s symbolic.
It photographs like an absolute dream.

And honestly… I’m quietly hoping more couples choose it, because that one time? It completely stole my heart. ✨

Today I am celebrating 18 beautiful years as a marriage celebrant, and my heart is honestly overflowing. When I first did my course back in 2006, the world looked very different. There were no online lodgements, no digital forms, no Canva, no Zoom, no Instagram reels, just me, a folder, a pen, and a whole lot of love. It was simple, it was heartfelt, and it was the beginning of a journey I had no idea would shape my life in the most extraordinary ways.

One of the biggest milestones in that journey was marriage equality. Same s*x marriages only became legal in 2017, and being able to stand with every couple, every love story, every beautiful pairing, has been one of the greatest honours of my career. Love is love, and witnessing it in all its forms has been nothing short of magic.

Across these 18 years, I have had the joy of officiating hundreds of ceremonies. Big ones, tiny ones, emotional ones, hilarious ones, barefoot ones, backyard ones, glamorous ones, and everything in between. Each ceremony has been unique, heartfelt, and unforgettable. Every couple has taught me something new, filled my heart a little more, and reminded me exactly why I adore this work.

To every couple who has trusted me with your love story, thank you. You have shaped my journey, filled my heart, and made these 18 years extraordinary. I carry your moments with me, every smile, every tear, every vow, every cheer.

Here is to more love, more laughter, more happy tears, and many more “I do” moments.

Love, Christina

Casey on her wedding morning… glowing, excited, and honestly, just look at her hair. Pure perfection.

And then there’s little Kyisah, nine years old, tux on, grinning from ear to ear, looking like the sweetest, smiliest mini gentleman you ever did see.
The love, the nerves, the excitement… all wrapped up in one gorgeous snapshot.

I mean, look at them. Helen floated into her ceremony in the most incredible pink dress, flowers in hand, wrapped in a frilly tulle jacket that honestly deserves its own runway. And beside her, her two gorgeous little mini-mes, matching her magic and stealing every heart in the room.

And let’s be honest… no one says a bride has to wear white.
Helen proved that colour, confidence and a whole lot of personality make the most unforgettable entrance.

A trio of joy, sparkle and pure family magic. 💗

In my opinion, a ring warming is one of the loveliest ways to include your guests in your ceremony without putting the spotlight on them. It’s gentle, meaningful and always so beautiful to witness.

Your wedding rings are passed through the hands of your loved ones, seen, admired, and most importantly, blessed with their love, hopes and good wishes for your marriage. By the time the rings reach you, they’re carrying a whole lot of heart.

If you have a smaller guest list, you can choose for the rings to be warmed by every single pair of hands. If you have more than 40 guests, you can play a piece of music while the rings move through the crowd, giving you both a moment to breathe, take it all in, and look at each other.

Or, if you prefer something quicker, you can choose just the first two or three rows to warm your rings.

It’s simple. It’s sentimental. And it’s one of my favourite little touches to weave into a ceremony.

Who can witness your wedding ceremony?

Here’s a fun little celebrant tip!

People often ask me who can sign their marriage documents and officially witness their ceremony. The answer is beautifully simple: anyone over 18 who understands English. That’s it. No special qualifications, no official roles, no pressure.

Most couples choose one person each… But if you have too many wonderful humans in your life and simply cannot decide, I have the BEST solution.

Before the ceremony, I secretly place two flowers, feathers or little objects under two random chairs. No one knows they’re there. Then, when we reach the legal signing, I announce that the lucky pot luck winners are… the people sitting on the magic chairs!
Cue gasps, laughter, cheering, and two very excited witnesses jumping up to sign your marriage documents. It’s always met with pure joy and becomes one of the most memorable moments of the ceremony.

A little fun. A little chaos. A whole lot of love.
Celebrant magic at its finest. ✨

✨ A little slice of bliss ✨
My husband and I snuck away for a few cheeky days of camping by the beach with our three pugs and our parrot… and honestly, it was heaven. Salt air, sandy paws, bird chatter, a bit of reading, and that delicious feeling of doing absolutely nothing.

Well… almost nothing. I did drive into town every day to get reception and sneak in a bit of work because celebrant life never really stops. But even that felt lovely.

And the food. Oh my goodness. Moreton Bay bugs and prawns, yum. Pure coastal bliss.

I’m back now, revived, recharged and ready for all the beautiful love stories coming my way. ✨
