Due to the one month notice period, the first date couples could marry was January 9th, 2018⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Overseas same s*x marriages immediately became recognised. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

The first same s*x wedding in Australia was held on December 15, 2017 (with a shortening of time). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

6,538 same s*x couples married in 2018, accounting for 5.5% of all marriages for that year. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
