HAPPY ANNIVERSARY💜5 YEARS MARRIED 💕 I can't believe it's been five years since photographer Kat and I walked with one of my favourite couples and their mums/witnesses, from their home to Hyde Park for a beautiful tiny elopement ceremony - followed by donuts & then cat cuddles at home!

So many special memories of this elopement - here's just one - the bride is a poet and during the ceremony I was honoured to read a poem she'd written for her groom 🥰

Congratulations you two gorgeous humans! 💜

REASONS TO CHOOSE A BACKYARD WEDDING OR ELOPEMENT 💕Thinking about having your wedding or elopement ceremony in your backyard? I've written a blog post with some reasons why it can be a good idea to choose your backyard as your ceremony location.

They include:
- your backyard is yours to enjoy for longer than the wedding day
- it's usually easy to move inside if the weather is bad
- zero travel time for the couple on the day
- feeling at home in familiar territory can calm nerves
- including kids and pets becomes easier if it's their own space

Meet C & R, a couple who didn't want to get stressed out with planning a traditional wedding - and so they didn't!
💜
Family and friends travelled from all over the world to be at this relaxed, mindful wedding by the water at Galup (previously known as Lake Monger) at sunset.
💜
From the wedding venue, photos, ceremony setup and making the guests feel included, this couple broke traditional wedding 'rules' and made their own traditions.
Super-fun with lots of laughs, it's still one of my favourites - and several of their friends told them it was the best wedding they’d ever been to!

TIPS TO WRITE AMAZING WEDDING VOWS 💕 Adding personal vows to your legally-required vow wording is the best way I know to make your elopement or wedding ceremony truly unique and personalised to the two of you.

As an Authorised Marriage Celebrant since 2020, I’ve helped many people craft their own heartwarming, tear-jerking, laugh-out-loud, sincere, silly and solemn personal marriage vows.

Here are some of my favourite tips to help you write meaningful personal marriage vows for your wedding or elopement.
1. Write your marriage vows yourself - don't outsource them to AI�
2. Make time to write them - they're not going to write themselves�
3. Write your vows early - no last-minute stressy vows�
4. Personalise your vows by being specific�
5. Make your vows a mixture of light-hearted and serious�
6. Speak your vows out loud - because that's what you'll be doing on the day�
7. If you get stuck, ask your celebrant for help

WHO CAN GET MARRIED IN AUSTRALIA?
🙋‍♀️You might be wondering if you need to be an Australian Citizen or have a particular residency visa to get married in Australia.

🙋🏼‍♂️Or you might have recently moved to Australia and be unsure if there is a minimum requirement of time that you have to have been in Australia before you can get married here.

🙋🏾Or maybe you love the idea of getting married in Australia while you’re on holidays here – but you’re not sure if this is legally allowed.

ELOPED IN A BOOKSHOP 📚 When wasn't available to do his signature Bookstore Elopement on this couple's significant date, photographer Kat asked me to step in. And then Kat got called up for Jury Duty! So the lovely came on board to associate shoot the elopement for Kat.

Kitty & I had so much fun getting these two book nerds hitched in one of Perth's most unique and beautiful bookshops

The couple said:

"We were very happy in our choice of Sally as our celebrant.�

Sally provided all the paperwork needed, coached us through what was required and offered her help with vows and vow writing.

The event was small but Sally was careful to get an idea of how we wanted to approach the day and fit her official duties with the general atmosphere (even down to colour harmonising) - everything went extremely smoothly :)"

1. The biggest unconventional wedding planning tip, and the most important, that I rarely see discussed: Focus on the marriage, not the wedding.

2. Make your own traditions. Don't be bullied into doing something just because someone thinks you 'should'. But if there's a wedding tradition that lights you up, make sure it's included.

3. Use the Wedding Footprint Calculator when planning to reduce your wedding's carbon footprint.
