For the past five years, I’ve been lucky enough to be involved in organising events to celebrate IWD and everything it stands for. I’ve loved bringing people together, creating safe spaces for conversations, sharing stories and celebrating the incredible women in our communities.
This year though, it snuck up on me.
Life has been busy, and if I’m honest, I’m a little tired. Running events takes time, energy, and resources, and the hustle of pulling it all together (and selling the tickets!) is real. I still have plenty of ideas and will bring them to life again one day, but this year I gave myself permission to slow down.
Instead, I spent the weekend at home making homemade pizzas and watching movies with my own little lady and one of her best friends. Two strong, determined and wonderfully unique young girls. Both different personalities, but the best of friends. Watching them grow reminds me that the future is in very good hands.
Next week I’ll still be celebrating in another way - sitting in the audience at Gather in Gil at the Curban Hall, listening to two incredible women & share their stories, enjoying a beautiful lunch prepared by another amazing rural woman, and chatting with more than 100 others from the Gil community.
And who knows… maybe next year the mojo will return, the ideas will start flowing again, and I’ll be ready to host another International Women’s Day event of my own.
For now though — I’m just grateful for the incredible women around me, both big and small.
Happy International Women’s Day 💛
