Exchanging rings at weddings is one of those "optional" elements that may be traditional but is not legally required.

If you're looking to marry quickly in Australia, it starts with the formal process of "giving notice". This involves completing and lodging a special form with an authorised celebrant.

You need to give at least one calendar month's notice to get married in Australia. Put simply, if you lodged your Notice of Intended Marriage on the 9th day of the month, the earliest you could marry would be the 9th day of the following month. End of the month lodgements are a little tricky in this regard - reach out for further info.

There are some situations where you can marry under the month timeframe if you meet specific criteria and permission is obtained from a prescribed authority. This can be complex, and you need the help of an authorised celebrant to apply for what's called a "shortening of time". If you'd like to know more about that, please reach out.
