Sooo I’ve done a couple of funerals recently. It’s made me think (and I apologise for my terrible sense of humour) but what is the most inappropriate song you want your family to play at your celebration of life?

Today was a rough one, farewelling a mate and uncle. ❤️‍🩹

But Fish Creek turned out. So much love, so many people, and an overflowing public hall. 🥰❤️‍🩹

Handley Funeral Services were exceptional.

And a huge shoutout to the Fishy Hall crew and My Family Memories for the interconnected livestream. Around 500 people gathered there, at a separate venue from the main service, with even more standing outside. Everyone raved about the sound and video. Somehow, even with that many people spread inside and out, everyone was able to be part of the farewell.

A pretty special effort for a pretty special bloke. ❤️

Sometimes the simple things really are the best 🤍

This morning I had the absolute privilege of marrying a couple who wanted to keep things simple and meaningful. Just the two of them, their two best friends as witnesses, and a relaxed ceremony in their own backyard.

No big production. No pressure. Just love, laughter and the people who matter most.

The highlight for me? Blowing bubbles with their kids after the ceremony and celebrating the sweetest little family moment together 🫧

One of the things I love most about these ceremonies is that couples can get married in their own space, surrounded by comfort and familiarity, often for the same price as a Registry Office wedding, without having to do the whole city thing.

And honestly… what better way is there to spend a Saturday morning?

No photos today because this one was just for them, and that’s perfectly okay. Some moments are meant simply to be enjoyed, not shared 🤍

Had a fun meeting today with a couple to sign their NOIM — let’s just say their engagement involved Pokémon and their wedding plans are wonderfully quirky 🥰💍 I’ll share more after the big day (if they give me the green light), but it’s shaping up to be something pretty special!

There’s something beautifully unruly about ‘new style weddings’. I’ve stood in gardens with gumboots on, raised my glass in grand halls, and cheered as couples danced barefoot under marquee lights. From jeans in the backyard to espresso martinis replacing cake—no two have ever been the same.

And that’s what I love most. When couples throw out the rulebook, their quirks take centre stage. It’s not about perfection—it’s about them. Those little touches, those unexpected moments—they’re what make every celebration unforgettable

IDAHOBIT is observed annually on May 17 to raise awareness of the discrimination and violence faced by le***an, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and q***r (LGBTIQ+) people globally. The date commemorates the World Health Organization’s 1990 decision to declassify homosexuality as a mental disorder.
