We recognise the First Nations people on the land we live, work and play. Especially the Larrakia and Kuku Yalanji lands where we have a presence. We also acknowledge the many other First Nations elders and leaders who collaborate with us to share their culture and stories and inspire us to care for kids and keep culture strong. We follow their lead and appreciate and advocate for the caring for country, kids and community. The origin of these concepts, being that Indigenous people have been the first innovators, makers and kreators and led the way for us all to do better for generation after generation since the Dreamtime. We celebrate the tropical north, from Tiwi to the Daintree. Philosophy...

Starwin and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency - Ahpra have been working together of the past twelve months on projects to incorporate meaningful artwork and stories into key documentation.

We had the pleasure of working in collaboration with Jedess Hudson to bring this to life. Check out the stunning cover design Jedess has created for the Occupational Therapy Board in the clip below.

Working together to improve standards of practice in the health sector and wellbeing for community is vital work and we are grateful to play a small part, that hopefully has big impact. ✨️

Starwin was founded on the belief that creating community change could happen by investing in the next generation of leaders. From work experience student - to business founder - to collaborator, the journey Sharniqua has been on since graduating high school and beginning her career pathway with Starwin has been amazing.

This year, Niqua stepped up to lead sessions for the STARS Foundation NAIDOC Gathering in Darwin. Yesterday she spent the morning, sharing her story and cultural knowledge and supporting other young women on their leadership journey.

We received the most beautiful message and photo following the sessions. We are truly grateful to STARS, especially to Lei and the team for the invite and opportunity to create a safe place and cultural space through weaving and their kind words.

---

"Sharniqua was brilliant - she engaged the girls gently and calmly and gave a haven for our more quiet girls to escape the busyness of the day. The girls were also able to leave with a memento they created themselves, which instilled pride. Thanks for coming on board and we appreciate working together.

It's quietly powerful for cultural activities to be at the forefront of events and to be led by First Nations women, as it plants seeds for our young ones and allows them to picture themselves in roles as creatives and business owners. Thank you to Sharniqua for modelling a potential pathway for our young artists."

Happy Retirement Charlie King...

In my first years in the Territory, I volunteered at the Arafura Games and was fortunate to have the privilege to be placed wifh Charlie. This then led to a job with ABC Grandstand where he taught me broadcasting, producing and commentating and so much about sport and life.

Charlie wasn't just a boss, but also a mentor and lifelong friend and champion and supporter. When I started my own business, Starwin and each time I started up womens football programs at first Nightcliff Tigers and then Tiwi Bombers, he was there helping make magic happen.

Later, his daughter Emma came to me when looking for her first job and I had the privilege of giving her an opportunity in a similar way her dad had given me.

A beautiful family, a lasting legacy and a lifetime of memories he has created.

A true NT legend who deserves all the accolades he has received and more.

Wishing Charlie a joyful and peaceful retirement, no doubt days filled with doing more work for all the causes he is passionate about with his characteristic kindness, class and empathy.

His work ethic was exceptional and his role modelling changed lives.

Forever grateful for the many moments and stories I have to share from my leadership journey because of you.

Thank you Charlie, for being a believer in me and a catalyst for many of my life and career choices ❤️💛🖤

~Karina

The Turtle Season collection is an exclusive range of gifts featuring artwork by Louise cynthia mountford and made with kindness by Catherine Manuell Design

Including backpacks, folios, zip purses, totes and more, there is something special in this collection for all occasions.

Louise is a young, emerging artist from Groote Eylandt who began her working life at our Darwin shopfront. Through our career pathways program, Louise was supported into full time employment and is now working On Country with the ranger program back home on Groote Eylandt, even having her artwork featured on a drone!

As a featured youth artist, Louise was paid upfront for her artwork and then a commission fee for each item made in the collection + gifted a full suite of products. This model is a way we can create economic and social impact that benefits the artists with more income, upfront.

We thank our community for their ongoing support to enable us to invest in the next generation. ✨️

For over a decade we have had the privilege of collaborating with Cleonie Quayle and showcasing her creations in our stores and across our platforms.

We are grateful to Global Sisters who first introduced Cleonie to our collective ✨️

What initially started as an eco friendly initiative to salvage fabric remnants from Babbarra Designs - we had Cleonie turn them into inspired one-of-a-kindness jewellery pieces.

Now Cleonie's enterprise is blossoming, with her stunning handmade masterpieces being showcased by BIG TIDDA

This month we are sharing a sneak preview, of an all new eco fashion collection featuring All Figured Out + Cleonie Quayle Jewellery, both showcasing stunning textiles from Babbarra Designs.

When we first opened Starwin Shopfront in 2013/14 we were privileged to be the first outlet to support this trio of enterprises to showcase their enterprises in Darwin and connect with community.

Now you can be part of the next rendition! Watch this space, sign up to our online store or check out our pop up stalls for NAIDOC in Yamaji country...
