Calling Gumbaynggirr artists

Gumbaynggirr artists are invited to submit their expressions of interest to be one of 10 artists included in the exciting exhibition Yaam Gumbaynggirr Jagun: Here is Gumbaynggirr Country (working title) opening in 2023 at Yarrila Arts and Museum and curated by Tori Donnelly.

If you are an Gumbaynggirr artist and have already submitted an Expression of Interest for the Gumbaynggirr Art Trail at Yarrila Place or for the Local Artist Expression of interest, we already have your EOI, so no need to reapply.

Giinagay! Unfortunately our resident weaver Lilly is off with a fever awaiting test results 🥺 so we will have to postpone the Sunday weaving workshop 😭 I KNOW Right?! How horribly inconvenient and fun ruining 😩
Everyone will get their ticket refunded and the workshop will be rescheduled as soon as Lilly is feeling well again, perhaps for Easter weekend or the one after 🤔 cross your fingers and we appreciate your understanding 🙏🏽

Our Story

Yarrawarra was incorporated on 17th December 1987 and registered as “Yarrawarra Aboriginal Coorporation”. An employment scheme had been established in remote parts of Australia called C.D.E.P “Community Development and Employment Program” and was considered for Yarrawarra. The first employees of C.D.E.P totalling 25 started in April 1989. From Here the progress of Yarrawarra began...

Now Yarrawarra has grown and changed, from a training centre, to Wadjar Regional Aboriginal Art Gallery, Jalumbo Keeping Place, Yuraal Bush tucker Cafe and Nuralamee Accommodation and Conference Centre. We run workshops in art, dance, language pottery and weaving, and run tours of significant historical sites and bush tucker tracks, along with exhibitions and community cultural events. And Jalumbo Keeping Placee houses artefacts from over 6000 years of local Gumbaynggirr history!
