Every single time I do a site visit I walk through here and I'm like...'don't look, don't look, don't look.'

This is all going. That is going. That is absolutely going. I will rip that out myself if I have to. It's so ugly. It's all going.

The wheelchair access ramp around the side, that's staying. Of course that's staying.

But the rest of it? Gone. All of it. It'll be fine. It's going to be fine.
…You're not going. You're staying.

And of course this is the recording studio.
Because why not, right?

If couples want somewhere really quiet to escape to, to have a moment to themselves, somewhere that feels completely unique this is it. And there's actually two of them. Two. Next door to each other.
So yeah, we're leaning into the recording studio vibe and I am here for it.

And then once that's all done, we're heading upstairs — because we're extending the bar in the kitchen. Which I am really excited about, if I'm being honest, because I really don't like how it looks right now.

Don't look. Don't look. We'll come back to that part later!

But this room, this used to be Woody's room. And apparently it had the best sound in Melbourne. He was really sad when he had to move all his stuff out, which I felt terrible about. But here we are.
And honestly? The sound in here is beautiful. What looks like a tiny little room is actually layers and layers of baffles and it goes all the way through. It's like a spongy mattress back there. Do not touch it though. It is so itchy. Terrible. Trust me on that one.

We're kicking the caterers out of here too, kitchen sink and all, and closing this whole section off so we can show you what the caterer's kitchen actually looks like in real life, and how it connects through to our foyer entrance.

This is the moment I love. This is what it feels like to arrive at Chapel 1885.

Nina is not going to like this. She hates change. She's old. But this wall is coming out.

If you stand right here, you can already see the vision, the cocktail space is going to include all these beautiful exposed bricks, the window, all the way through to the front door. It's going to feel so connected and open.

And that cute little window inside the caterer's kitchen? We decided caterers don't need prime real estate. They can go out the back and our couples and their guests get to enjoy every bit of this space instead.

That's the vision. And I cannot wait to see it come to life.

This is what Chapel 1885 is about to become. ✨

We're redesigning the entire lower level — more light, more space, a flow that finally matches the beauty of what's upstairs.

New layout. New finishes. A space worthy of the building above it.

The before and afters are going to be something else.

And this is where the renovation begins. 🔨

Sophia and Adrian.

The entrance at Chapel 1885 has a bit of everything. Old brick, ironwork, ivy creeping in, and that staircase that always seems to create a moment without trying too hard.

In and out, arrivals or exits… it all seems to work here.

Upstairs looks incredible… but downstairs tells a different story.

The lower level has always been the weak point of Chapel 1885. Dark, cramped, and not exactly ideal when Melbourne weather does its thing.

It's the contrast no one really talks about — and it's been holding the venue back.

So we decided to change it.

Next episode: we'll show you exactly what we're planning. 🔨

This is what weddings inside a 140-year-old chapel look like. 🕍

Exposed brick. Chandeliers. A space that completely transforms when it fills with people.

Chapel 1885 hosts intimate weddings right in the heart of Collingwood — and honestly, nothing prepares you for how it looks on the day.

But it's not perfect.

Next episode: we're heading downstairs… and that's where things get complicated.

Zoe and Cooper, framed by the front doors.

Natural light pouring in, brick, ironwork, and florals shaping the space around them. It’s a spot that works just as well for a quiet moment as it does for the ceremony itself.
