Feeling very proud of my lovely friend who has just launched her rebrand, and it is SO GOOD!!

I knew Samantha had all the ideas and knowledge inside her clever brain, but getting them all out in a way that made sense and felt like her was becoming overwhelming and confusing.

So we did it together!!

We talked through her goals and challenges and together we:

🐚 Created a Pinterest mood board with visual inspiration and symbols to take into her rebrand

🐚 Workshopped some copy for her key services to make them clear and easy to understand (and to honour the power of her incredible gifts)

🐚 Brainstormed a new Insta handle that was unique and ownable but also on brand and aligned

🐚 Brainstormed clever ways to use her amazing brand imagery in her feed

The result? A beautiful, cohesive rebrand that feels completely true to Samantha and the amazing work she does. It really is as magic as she is ✨

And just like that, my breastfeeding journey has come to an end for the very last time.

It’s been 18 months this time round, after 18 months with my daughter, and 15 months with my biggest boy, many sleepless moons ago.

It works out to be four and a half years of feeding across the last 8.5 years of motherhood. That’s almost half my life as a mum spent nourishing little humans from my body to theirs, and the equivalent of a full time job’s worth of hours for every year of breastfeeding completed. Omg. No wonder I’ve been tired!!!!

I’ve been so beyond lucky to’ve had beautiful feeding journeys with all three of my babies. Even when it was hard (and boy is it hard), I’ve always felt grateful that I got to do it and even more grateful that I’ve been able to grow my career around it.

I’ve built my businesses with babies on my back, in my lap, and in my arms. And while I’ll always advocate for mums to have waaaayyyyyy more support (especially when it comes to working, whatever that looks like for you) I think it’s a testament to just how remarkable working mums are.

For a long time, I used to downplay that part of my life at work, because that’s what we’re told to do, right? Parent like you don’t work. Work like you’re not a parent. God forbid having tiny humans takes you away from your desk for a moment.

But not anymore.

Now, I celebrate it. It’s part of my heart, and I put my heart into my work. Why should I hide it?!

So last time I updated my resume I decided to add a new line under education, right beside my Bachelor of Comms and Diploma of Floristry. It reads “Mum School: lifetime enrolments x3”.,

Being a mum has taught me more about myself, my values, my creativity, and my capacity than anything else ever has. It’s part of what makes me who I am, and why I’m so good at what I do.

To any other mamas reading this, whether you’re working for yourself or someone else, please know that being a mum is one of your greatest superpowers. You don’t have to hide that part of yourself to prove you’re good at what you do. You’re AMAZING.

Your sign-off is such an underrated spot to show - you guessed it - your brand voice. It’s the little wink or smile at the end of your email that says “this is me”.

Oh hi! This is 25 year old me, standing out the front of the flower shop I leased on a whim, with no clue what the next decade would have in store for me. Or how many mistakes I was about to make 🙊

I didn’t have any idea how to run a business.

I didn’t have ANY experience as a florist.

I didn’t have a clue about pricing, payroll or profit margins.

I had ZERO systems in place. I didn’t even know how much stock I was supposed to be ordering.

But the one thing I did know?

How to build a brand.

I built a strong brand voice that had my happy personality all over it.

I chose a bold sunny yellow for my branding (a colour no one was really using at the time) and a name that I thought would pique curiosity and set me apart from every other variation of “flower” and “bloom”.

I crafted a modern and joyful floristry style, and a recognisable visual vibe that was unmistakably mine (before the white brick wall was super cool I swear!!)

I had no idea what I was doing. Except I kinda did.

That brand, my beloved Mary Mary studio, changed the entire course of my working life.

💛 It helped me quit my job and work as a florist full time
💛 It gave me a beautiful corner shop in Coburg (the yellow door’s still there!)
💛 It brought in $250,000 in my first full-time year (not profit obvs… learned that the hard way)
💛 It had brands like the AFL, Carlton FC, Priceline and Kikki K asking to work with me
💛 It opened doors I still walk through today, even in a completely different industry
💛 It allowed me to start a family and never miss a day with my babies

All because I built something that felt just like me.

That’s the power of a brand.

When you know your heart and soul, anything’s possible!!

A brand is just a feeling 💭

I’ve given my emotional literacy feelings wheel a little shake up to turn it into a Brand Feelings Wheel — a tool to help you explore some of the different ways your brand can sound. From sassy and sarcastic to polished or playful, there are so many ways to give your business a voice that feels just like you.
