Got a page for your business - or self?

💻🗒 Do yourself a favour and visit the page from a computer, and keep this checklist in mind whilst you have a browse:

📌 Have you updated your Featured pinned posts this year? If you're looking at pinned posts from other years, re-publish the post as a fresh item, and Pin that new one instead.

📌 Hit the Manage button on your pinned posts and remove events that have passed.

📸 Click on your Cover page, click to Edit & add a description on the image. Include your website link.

📖 Read your business Intro & Bio, look for tweaks, updates & corrections & make them.

👉 Add some featured photos at the bottom of the Intro section in collections of your most popular services or best selling products. You can do whatever you like, but think of this as an add-on that could be more useful.

🧐 People who are looking up businesses on Facebook during the day are often using computers. So they will be looking at your page from their own perspective and these top sections are what they see first.

🌟 Audit your Page to keep it looking lively, provide current & accurate information - as well as make your business look like you care about those who have come to view you.

One of the biggest problems we hear from social media clients, is that they feel weird about talking about themselves. Is that you too?

I met a businesswoman last week, who shared she was uncomfortable talking about herself within her own marketing. And because she is a marketer, she struggles with the fact that she can't role model the client work she does, for her own business.

This just shows how common this problem is. You aren't alone. We struggle with that too.

Here's a good tip that worked for me when I started Social Ocean - & what I shared with this person to try. It doesn't work 100% for everyone, but will work well if it aligns to your business setup.

When you're drafting your content, swap the "I" out for "we".

Immediately, it reduces the block of talking about yourself as a solo person in business. You might quickly think - but it's just me. But I ask you to think outside the box - & think about who are the people you work with in YOUR business.

Do you have a bookkeeper, accountant, VA, marketer, graphic designer, web developer or designer, volunteers, trainees, committee, collaborators, mentor, business coach, sounding board, printer? And product-based businesses will have an entire different collection of roles.

Most of us will have others we work with, to run our business, but because we don't pay their wage - those people & services aren't part of our success.

I challenge that. I currently have or have had every one of these roles at Social Ocean. And often, I'll have more than one of each. Currently there are 10 active contractors helping us to provide services this month alone.

So I can easily revert my language to talk about my business as a team - & move from "I" in this story-telling scenario, to the "we" behind the business.

Even if you have just a single support person in place, you're a "We". And quite frankly, even if you didn't have someone right now - noone else would know, because your peers & clients would likely expect that you do.

Give this a try when you're writing your next social media drafts, and see if it helps you take the YOU out of focus, and help you focus on the business promotion a little easier.

Scrolling through the professional photography from the recent AusMumpreneur Awards, I've been reflecting on my time at both the National Conference & National Awards.

I'm deeply honoured to have received the Bronze Award in the Events Business category at the 2025 AusMumpreneur Awards. Sharing this category win alongside the Gold and Silver winners - Julia Truong from JT. Production Management and Maree O'Shea from Malpara Florist Townsville - fills me with immense gratitude & pride. Their work is an absolute inspiration to me. They deserve all the congratulatory applause & sharing the stage with them was a true joy.

This Bronze win soaks in everything Social Ocean has poured its heart into in the last year: from the milestone 150th networking event for Ocean Network, to creating connection‑rich experiences like Ladies Who Long Lunch & running workshops, launches, product highlights, writing event plans & creating community campaigns so much more. It’s the many people we get to work with - the guests, speakers, collaborators, clients, & most of all, the incredible men & women who show up - that make every event unforgettable.

Thank you to the AusMumpreneur judges for recognising what community-led, purpose‑driven event design can do. And to every person who has rallied behind Social Ocean: thank you from the bottom of my heart.

This isn’t just my win, it’s ours. Here’s to creating more spaces where organisations, business and businesswomen feel seen, celebrated & strengthened through our work.

A quick reminder for The Ocean Network this morning - we are in a different spot within the venue than we normally meet, due to an upgrade in process in our normal space.

Look for the yellow & white umbrellas as you enter - these sit outside the Public Bar along Oxley Avenue, which is where we'll be meeting today.

Entry is via the glass door from the walk through/tunnel, on your right at the top of the ramp/steps entry nearest the roundabout.

Ocean Network is on tomorrow!!! Arrival at 7:30am to The Belvedere for brekky, connecting with fellow business owners and a great reason to be out of your office for a couple of hours.

Founders Kirsty Fields and Leanne Blaney will welcome business owners to the Ocean Network for networking, business building and wonderful education for all sorts of areas within your business.

Special guest speaker Jeanette Jifkins from Onyx Legal will be presenting "Considering Joint Ventures".

We have an adjusted location tomorrow. We'll be in the Public Bar - just off the main entryway from Oxley Avenue closest to the roundabout. Look out for the yellow & white umbrellas.

It's hard to pin point our favourite thing about events, because every event is different.

In the last month alone we've coordinated, set-up, managed & MC'd breakfast, morning tea & lunch time events - & every single one was vastly different to the next.

All of them had guest speakers, some of them were catered, some were outdoors, one we travelled hundreds of kilometres to get to!

🤔 What's there to like?

☺️ Seeing a space in quiet perfection before what may be wild & raucous later,
🤓 Watching guests engage with their surroundings,
😋 Selecting menus, venues or caterers,
😆 Calling out raffle winners names (aka wild & raucous moments), or
🤩 Welcoming guests as they arrive.
These are all amongst our favourite parts of an event. There are so many moments to be caught up in!

We're prepping for another fortnight of heavy lifting with many more events rolling out.

But first... 🥂 has it's final "long" event of the year selling right now. Tickets close off THIS week - don't forget to book your seat - which means a lot of what's coming in the next two weeks is centred in all things Redcliffe.

It's the first time we're taking LWLL to the & we can't wait to spend the day looking out across Dolphin Stadium and bask in the warmth of the sun through the glass (fingers crossed!).
