5 YEARS// Aaron & Casey’s wedding wasn’t just a ceremony, it was an immersion in love, culture, and Country.
We began where the walk to Koorawatha Falls starts, after a bumpy 4WD through flooded riverbeds. In the bush, around a fire, Uncle Harry “Yaari” Lambshead Welcomed us to Wiradjuri Country in language, his clapping sticks calling out across the trees. From the distance, voices answered, the sound of friends from singing and chanting as they approached through the bush in ceremonial dress and ochre body paint.
The welcome dance that followed was breathtaking, moving, powerful, and deeply intimate. We added our sticks to the fire, walked through the smoke of the smoking ceremony led by Aunty Enid Clarke and Uncle Yarri and felt ourselves truly connected to the land we stood on.
Then came the walk to the falls. Rain soaking us, puddles splashing, the roar of water growing louder. At the base, with the falls thundering behind them, Aaron & Casey promised their forever.
Five years on, I still carry the goosebumps from that day. ✨
