I was recently asked if it was true that Islamic refugees could marry a few wives and then claim benefits for all of them. I assured the person that it was patently untrue. Under the laws of Australia, only two people can be married and that is to the exclusion of all others. As celebrants, we actually read this to the couple during the ceremony. The ridiculous story about the refugees is, unfortunately, propaganda designed to build hatred to others. I hope you that Australians can give others a fair go and rise above this deliberate attempt at division.
