It was a privilege to work with Roundabout Canberra today to pack crisis packs for children at our community centre Poppyfield Commons. Thanks to The Dickson Tradies for supporting this initiative and to our community partners for volunteering your time

Free skateboarding today at Poppyfields! Coach Levi is there to help, free hire of boards and helmets and sausage sizzle at 12:30 today! What better to do on this last day of the school holidays!
Games and coloring inside for kids (and parents) who want to chill.

What an incredible NAIDOC week we have had so far at Poppyfield Commons, Dickson! Gathering each day to learn and enjoy Ngunnawal culture through language, weaving, music and dance. We've been personally guided by Ngunnawal leaders, we've laughed, made friends, made art and made special memories.

The last day to join this deadly celebration is Saturday 11 July 11-3pm! Our final community gathering to close off this amazing week. We have market stalls, food stalls, arts and crafts, face painting, reptile zoo, and live music. See you there!

NAIDOC week continues to be a wonderful community centred event . We started on Sunday with a special Opening Ceremony with Aunty Violet sharing her welcome to Ngunnawal Country, a smoking ceremony, bush Tucker tasting, BBQ and community canvas.
Wednesday is weaving day and Thursday we have a special Rap Workshop with Indigenous rapper The Wizz.
Saturday 11/7 we will close out the week with a Community Day that will include a Reptile Zoo, face painting, food stalls and market stalls and more. Come and join in!

🧺🎶 NAIDOC Week celebrations continue at Poppyfield Commons!

TODAY: WED 8 JULY | Weaving Day (10am – 12pm)
Discover the art of traditional weaving in our Weaving Workshop (wait list available only), then enjoy the NAIDOC Treasure Hunt, Colouring Competition and help create our Reconciliation Canvas.

TOMORROW: THU 9 JULY | Music Day (11am – 1pm)
Celebrate culture through music and creativity with our RAP Workshop [Age 12+] and Clapsticks Art Workshop (limited bookings available). You can also take part in the NAIDOC Colouring Competition and contribute to our Reconciliation Canvas.

The RAP workshop [bookings required - Ages 12+ Only] will be led by “Wizz” Michael Weir, one half of the Queanbeyan-based hip-hop duo Stik n Move. With more than a decade of experience producing, writing and performing music together, Stik n Move bring creativity, energy and storytelling to their work. In this workshop, Wizz will guide participants to explore rap, music and art as powerful tools for self-expression, connection and creativity.
