❤️ A FULL HOUSE FOR FATHER’S DAY — AND WE THANK YOU! What a wonderful Father’s Day at The Church!

THANKS everyone enough for choosing to spend such a special day with us.

One of the things we loved most was seeing that nobody seemed in a hurry to leave. People ate, chatted, lingered, relaxed and simply soaked up the atmosphere of The Church and grounds. Kids playing, running around, feeding the chooks🐔, people taking photos. Just lovely!

And please know — staying longer is NEVER an inconvenience to us! We live here, so we ain’t going anywhere. 😂 In fact, we take it as one of the greatest compliments you can give us. If you feel comfortable and relaxed enough to sit back, stay awhile and enjoy being here, then we feel like we’ve done something right. ❤️

Thank you for your kind words, your feedback and, most importantly, simply for supporting our small family business.

My favourite part of these days is welcoming you and then later getting a chance to wander from table to table, have a chat and see how everyone is going.

The bits before, during and after are bloody hard work! But YOU are what makes it special beyond measure.

And a HUGE thank you to our very small but incredibly hard-working team.

An extra special thank you today to Garry — Hubby, Co-Owner who spent his own Father’s Day working to make sure other fathers and families could enjoy theirs. Garry works full-time Monday to Friday and then comes home to work after hours, weekends and events here at The Church.

Thank you, Garry. I also like your hourly rate so much that I’m going to DOUBLE IT! (Double of nothin’ is still nothin’... 🤦‍♀️)

To all the fathers, dads, grandfathers, stepfathers, step-up dads and father figures who joined us today — we hope you felt celebrated and had a wonderful Father’s Day.

We have both lost our own fathers to cancer, so today is always a little bittersweet for us. The Church is dedicated to both of them and they feature on walls opposite each other. So they are forever present and honoured within The Church's walls.

AND NOW… WHAT DID WE LEARN? 👩‍🎓

We still very much have our L plates on. The Church is growing quickly, our events are getting bigger, and every time we host one we learn something that helps us make the next one even better.

Today was actually a really interesting one from a catering perspective because we had such a wonderfully mixed group of guests — from children and teenagers, through to young adults, middle-aged guests and our older generation. ❤️

Trying to create one buffet that appeals to every age, appetite and taste is certainly a challenge! What a child considers the perfect Father’s Day lunch can be VERY different to what their parents or grandparents choose.

We had lots of variety today, but it got us thinking about how we can offer even more choice without everything needing to be hot and coming out of the kitchen at exactly the same time.

So, a couple of ideas coming out of today:

1️⃣ More substantial COLD main-meal buffet dishes.
We’re going to experiment with some beautiful cold mains alongside our hot dishes. This will give every age and taste even more choice, while taking some pressure off having numerous hot dishes ready and replenished simultaneously.

2️⃣ A cleaning/clearing station inside The Church.
Less running backwards and forwards with dishes means quicker clearing of tables and, most importantly, more time looking after you!

3️⃣ More “wet” hot dishes that can happily stay warm in slow cookers.
We’re also going to introduce more hearty dishes that can be prepared ahead and kept hot in slow cookers, ready for you to help yourselves without everything having to come out of the kitchen at once.

4️⃣ Working towards a BIGGER commercial kitchen.
And of course, the biggest improvement of all — more kitchen space! As The Church and our catering continue to grow, we’re working towards a larger commercial kitchen setup that will give us much more room to prepare, cook, plate and serve food efficiently.

That one won’t happen overnight, but it’s firmly in our plans and we’re actively working towards it.

That’s how we want The Church to grow.

Any other ideas? Feedback is always appreciated [email protected] THANK YOU 🙏

🚨 DID YOU ATTEND OUR SUNDAY MARKET? WE NEED YOUR HONESTY & HELP. ❤️

Sadly, after what was our BEST Church On Sundays market yet, we discovered something pretty devastating.

Our Square handheld payment machine had been offline during the entire event on Sunday 30 August, from 11am–3pm. That should not have been a major issue. It appeared to accept everyone’s card payments as normal throughout the day, but when we reconnected it to the internet, every single card payment from the day was DECLINED.

I have been trying to resolve this with Square since then, with numerous phone calls, emails, screenshots and records being provided to Square, but unfortunately the payments cannot be recovered through them as they have all the fine print covered 😡 All "care" no responsibility...

That means that if you purchased pizzas, food, drinks, scones etc. from our timber counter in front of the house and paid by CARD, the payment you thought you made did not actually come out of your bank account — and we did not receive it.

So, we are asking for something very simple:

❤️ YOUR HONESTY.

Please have a quick look at your bank account. If you paid by card at our counter on Sunday and there is no payment to The Church/Square, we would be incredibly grateful if you could repay the amount.

We have the list of all the payment amounts declined so if you are not sure of the amount owed we can help you. Email [email protected] or text 0401 788 880 so I can let you know.

You can repay your purchase by:

📱 PayID: 0401 788 880

or

🏦 Direct Bank Transfer
Account Name: The Church / G and N Graham
BSB: 632 001
Account: 100233841
Please put your NAME & “Sunday” in the payment description so we can reconcile the payments.

or

☎️ Call 0401 788 880 and I can take your payment over the phone.

We are obviously pretty upset. We worked incredibly hard on Sunday, as did everyone helping us, and it was such a fantastic day. We were absolutely thrilled because it looked like it was going to be the first of our live music and market days to actually make a profit. These events take time, money and a huge amount of work to build!!!

For a small family business just starting out, this is a significant amount to lose from a single day.

Thankfully, everyone who paid cash is completely fine — those payments were received.

We know that everyone who tapped their card did so genuinely believing they had paid us. Nobody has done anything wrong!!! 🙏We simply need those people to check their accounts now that we know what happened.

Please check your bank account to see the amount would not have come out of your account, then we'd be enormously grateful if you could send it through.

And if you know someone who attended on Sunday, PLEASE SHARE THIS POST so we have the best possible chance of reaching everyone.

Thank you. ❤️

Sometimes running a small business really does throw you a curveball... 😔

I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed tonight. ❤️

There’s no secret that the last few years have been difficult for us, for numerous reasons. REALLY difficult at times.

I don’t need to go back over all of it. Those who know, know.

But lately I’ve felt something changing.

And today I felt it in a HUGE way.

There was just this incredible wave of support coming at us from every direction and I’m sitting here tonight feeling quite emotional about it.

So many people came up and talked to me today. So many kind words. Hugs. Encouragement. People telling me their own stories. People saying how much they love what we’ve created here. People supporting what we’re doing for Campbell Town. People wishing me well with Council. People who have quietly watched our journey for years and just wanted to tell me to keep going.

And I don’t think any of them probably realised how much I needed to hear it.

Because when you’ve had a few rough years, you get pretty good at putting your head down and just getting on with it.

You work. You cope. You fix the next problem. You pick yourself up. You keep moving.

But today, for some reason, it all got through the armour. ❤️

Maybe because it’s my birthday. Maybe because I’m 58 and feeling reflective. Maybe because today was such a fantastic day at The Church. Or maybe because after feeling like we’ve been pushing s**t uphill for such a long time, today it suddenly felt like the tide had turned.

I don’t know. I just know I felt it.

I spent most of today doing what I usually do — working my backside off 😂 — running in and out of the kitchen, cooking, cleaning, organising, solving problems and making sure everyone else was having a great time.

But every time I came out, there were happy people everywhere.

People eating, drinking, listening to fabulous live music, wandering around the market, sitting in the sunshine, laughing and enjoying our property.

And THAT makes me ridiculously happy.

I’m lucky that I can work hard. I know there are people who would give anything to have the health, opportunity or circumstances to be able to work, create, build something and chase their dreams. I never want to take that for granted. I’ve been there - unable to work.

I’m 58 today. Of course I wish I was younger, on old head on young shoulders BUT I also know I thrive on still “keeping up”

There have been some absolutely fantastic years in those 58. And there have been some bloody horrendous ones.

But I’m still here.

Still ridiculously resilient.
Still full of ideas.
Still working too hard.
Still dreaming.
Still having a crack.

And tonight, more than anything, I’m just incredibly grateful.

So to everyone who came today, messaged me, hugged me, encouraged me, supported us, supported me, or simply said something kind…

THANK YOU.

You probably thought you were just saying a few words.

But today those words added up to something pretty bloody powerful. ❤️

And whatever 58 has in store for me…
I reckon it’s going to be a good year. 🥂
