❤️ A FULL HOUSE FOR FATHER’S DAY — AND WE THANK YOU! What a wonderful Father’s Day at The Church!
THANKS everyone enough for choosing to spend such a special day with us.
One of the things we loved most was seeing that nobody seemed in a hurry to leave. People ate, chatted, lingered, relaxed and simply soaked up the atmosphere of The Church and grounds. Kids playing, running around, feeding the chooks🐔, people taking photos. Just lovely!
And please know — staying longer is NEVER an inconvenience to us! We live here, so we ain’t going anywhere. 😂 In fact, we take it as one of the greatest compliments you can give us. If you feel comfortable and relaxed enough to sit back, stay awhile and enjoy being here, then we feel like we’ve done something right. ❤️
Thank you for your kind words, your feedback and, most importantly, simply for supporting our small family business.
My favourite part of these days is welcoming you and then later getting a chance to wander from table to table, have a chat and see how everyone is going.
The bits before, during and after are bloody hard work! But YOU are what makes it special beyond measure.
And a HUGE thank you to our very small but incredibly hard-working team.
An extra special thank you today to Garry — Hubby, Co-Owner who spent his own Father’s Day working to make sure other fathers and families could enjoy theirs. Garry works full-time Monday to Friday and then comes home to work after hours, weekends and events here at The Church.
Thank you, Garry. I also like your hourly rate so much that I’m going to DOUBLE IT! (Double of nothin’ is still nothin’... 🤦♀️)
To all the fathers, dads, grandfathers, stepfathers, step-up dads and father figures who joined us today — we hope you felt celebrated and had a wonderful Father’s Day.
We have both lost our own fathers to cancer, so today is always a little bittersweet for us. The Church is dedicated to both of them and they feature on walls opposite each other. So they are forever present and honoured within The Church's walls.
AND NOW… WHAT DID WE LEARN? 👩🎓
We still very much have our L plates on. The Church is growing quickly, our events are getting bigger, and every time we host one we learn something that helps us make the next one even better.
Today was actually a really interesting one from a catering perspective because we had such a wonderfully mixed group of guests — from children and teenagers, through to young adults, middle-aged guests and our older generation. ❤️
Trying to create one buffet that appeals to every age, appetite and taste is certainly a challenge! What a child considers the perfect Father’s Day lunch can be VERY different to what their parents or grandparents choose.
We had lots of variety today, but it got us thinking about how we can offer even more choice without everything needing to be hot and coming out of the kitchen at exactly the same time.
So, a couple of ideas coming out of today:
1️⃣ More substantial COLD main-meal buffet dishes.
We’re going to experiment with some beautiful cold mains alongside our hot dishes. This will give every age and taste even more choice, while taking some pressure off having numerous hot dishes ready and replenished simultaneously.
2️⃣ A cleaning/clearing station inside The Church.
Less running backwards and forwards with dishes means quicker clearing of tables and, most importantly, more time looking after you!
3️⃣ More “wet” hot dishes that can happily stay warm in slow cookers.
We’re also going to introduce more hearty dishes that can be prepared ahead and kept hot in slow cookers, ready for you to help yourselves without everything having to come out of the kitchen at once.
4️⃣ Working towards a BIGGER commercial kitchen.
And of course, the biggest improvement of all — more kitchen space! As The Church and our catering continue to grow, we’re working towards a larger commercial kitchen setup that will give us much more room to prepare, cook, plate and serve food efficiently.
That one won’t happen overnight, but it’s firmly in our plans and we’re actively working towards it.
That’s how we want The Church to grow.
