Our hearts go out to the family and friends of Krystel Paul during this incredibly difficult time. Krystel will be dearly missed and forever remembered. 💔

Her name is Krystel Paul.

She was 41. A small business owner. Someone who showed “incredible kindness and creativity” to everyone who knew her.

On Tuesday evening, Krystel and her husband, James Paul, were found dead with gunshot wounds in different rooms inside their Mount Sheridan home in Cairns.

It’s been reported that James shot Krystel before turning the firearm on himself.

Police said their 10-year-old daughter was “alerted to the incident occurring” and left the house moments before. She ran to a neighbour’s house and they called the police.

Krystel’s daughter reportedly told the neighbour: “My dad sent me here because she’s dead”.

She is now in the care of family.

Neighbours reportedly described the couple as childhood sweethearts.

Multiple fi****ms were kept in the home, all registered to John.

The couple was not known to police and there were no police records of domestic violence. However, Cairns’ Police Detective Acting Inspector Alina Bell said on Wednesday: “It’s always possible that things go on behind closed doors that family, friends and police are not aware of.”

Krystel is the 31st Australian woman killed this year, according to Sherele Moody's Australian Femicide Watch.⁣
