Woven bamboo - “phên tre” - was never meant for weddings.

Usually, woven bamboo belongs in Vietnamese homes.

Leaning against courtyard walls.
Filtering afternoon light.
Just part of everyday life growing up.

So we brought phên tre into a modern reception,
not as decoration, but as memory.

Soft waves of bamboo flowing through the space.

Red panels to give it structure, like a doorway between past and present.
Lush florals softened the lines.
Red tassels moved gently with the air -
symbols of celebration and prosperity.
Crystal beads caught the evening light,
turning something humble into something luminous.

It felt right - modern and Australian, but still connected to the couple and where their families come from.

And honestly, that’s what we love most -
taking something ordinary from Vietnamese life
and turning it into something meaningful for a wedding.

In the Vietnamese Tea Ceremony, the family table is more than a place to sit - It is the heart of the tradition, where generations unite in honour, love, and legacy.

Decorated with grace and reverence, this table is where the elders and parents are seated - those who came before, who shaped the lives and values of the bride and groom. Facing the ceremonial altar or the couple, this table is positioned with intention: to remind everyone that marriage is not just a union of two people, but a merging of two families, histories, and hopes.

Here, the bride and groom offer tea - served with both hands, bowed heads, and words of gratitude. Every cup poured is a symbol of respect. Every bow is a silent vow to uphold family bonds.

The family table often becomes the emotional core of the ceremony. It is where tears are shed, laughter is shared, and blessings are given. It reflects the Vietnamese cultural belief that family is the foundation of all things - of love, of life, and of marriage.
