It was my pleasure to conduct Jodie & Nic’s wedding ceremony on Saturday. It took place in a beautiful chapel which held a special significance for them as Jodie’s grandparents had attended church there. And luck was certainly on their side as the storms came and went throughout the day and night but didn’t impact the different components of their special day too much. Congratulations to Jodie & Nic!

While conducting a wedding for a dear friend is rewarding, being asked to officiate my step-daughter's wedding was even more so. Watching her grow up and witnessing her love story unfold has been amazing but being asked to perform her wedding was one of the most personal and meaningful roles I could ever take on. What was even more significant is that the wedding took place at our family farm with only their nearest and dearest present (including their beautiful little daughter).
We dodged the storms that day and managed to get through the ceremony before the rain came down again. But rain on a wedding day is traditionally believed to be a symbol of good luck right? Congratulations Jeena and Aiden! ❤️

One of my favourite things about being a Marriage Celebrant is that I sometimes get to play a special role in the marriages of my friends and family. Recently I had the privilege of marrying my good friend Vicki and the love of her life Pete. The ceremony took place in the beautiful gardens of their home on a stage built by Vicki’s father and with all of their nearest and dearest present. It was such an amazing afternoon and evening and I am so lucky to have been a part of it!

It was my pleasure to perform an intimate wedding ceremony for David and Karen at their home on the weekend. It was such a nice, relaxed atmosphere with only their closest family and friends present. It reinforced that you don’t need to have a big expensive wedding to create beautiful memories of your special day, you just need to share it with those people that mean the most to you 🌸

The threatening looking storm clouds yesterday afternoon provided a dramatic backdrop to Carryn and Peter's wedding on the golf course. But the rain stayed away and the ceremony went off without a hitch. All the best to Carryn and Peter!

Getting married doesn't have to involve a fancy or expensive wedding or reception venue. Jan & Graeme were lucky enough to have a large deck and sufficient space to accommodate a small marquee in their background for their wedding ceremony. They also held their catered reception in their lovely (air-conditioned) house. Congratulations Jan & Graeme!

A great way to symbolise the union between a man and a woman is through a candle lighting ceremony incorporated into their wedding ceremony. Two candles, representing the couple as individuals, are used to light a single centre candle as a visible symbol of their commitment to each other. The centre candle can be lit by a parent from each side, the best man and maid of honour, the bride and groom or anyone else who may be important to the couple. The centre candle also makes a great keepsake and can be relit each year on the couple's wedding anniversary.

A long happy marriage is well worth celebrating especially when a significant milestone is reached eg 25 or 50 years. A vow renewal is a perfect way to do this, with family, friends and/or original wedding party members present. I would like to share a poem I wrote for just this type of occasion.

A Celebration of Life Together
by Annette Savery

We met when we were young
And we fell for one another,
We realised that we couldn't live
Another day without each other.

We worked hard to earn a living
And to make ourselves a home,
We went through many ups and downs
But we never felt alone.

We were blessed to become parents
And loved our children as much as we should,
We helped them learn and helped them grow
To be the best they could.

We have bid farewell to our children
From the family nest,
We have grandchildren to enjoy
And friends with whom we jest.

We keep ourselves quite busy
But always find time to say,
We love each other with all our hearts
And will til our dying day.

We thank you for sharing this day with us
It truly is a pleasure,
We celebrate a great milestone
And this day we will always treasure.

PS The Wishes Jars I mentioned yesterday are available from some newsagents and gift shops!
