Poppy & Fern is a sustainable flower farm and florist cultivating the slow flower movement at The Farm in Byron Bay.
The call of the flowers has always been strong for our Jess, aka Poppy. From crafting floral gifts as a young girl, to work experience in a florist as a teenager, the path was always clear. Over the last 12 years, Jess soaked in the wisdom of leaders in floristry, permaculture and horticulture. She is a woman who grows and creates with incredible heart, soul and integrity. Along the way, her love
for fresh dahlias awakened a vision of owning her own flower farm where she could design with locally grown blooms. Sculpting breathtaking botanical designs was just the beginning. Now, she’s living the dream planting, growing, and designing amongst a community of like-minds on The Farm in the Byron Bay hinterland. For Jess, life is best when she’s connected to the land. It’s why she wakes up every day to walk the Field, breathing the same air as our flowers, and stopping to watch them germinate. You might see her kneeling to the earth to scoop up the rich volcanic Byron Bay soil and letting it run between her fingers. If you ask her, she’ll tell you there’s magic in that soil.

✨ Love filling your home with fresh flowers all year? We adore bringing local blooms to your door, season after season. 🌿💛
Set up a regular bouquet delivery and let your home always feel alive with flowers.
Florist Tip: As temps rise, give your flowers the best chance to thrive by refreshing their water daily. If one room gets too warm, try moving your vase to a cooler spot so those petals last longer.

We are bringing it back!! Volunteer Morning every Wednesday 9–12! 🌿 The sun’s out, the flowers are blooming, things in the field are moving fast and many hands make light work.
It’s a hands-on morning, we’ll be weeding, mulching, planting, and focusing on a new task each week. You’ll be out in the elements, working hard but also having fun alongside like-minded souls, surrounded by flowers.
Spots are limited each week, PM Jess now to find out more and get your name down! 🌱

✨ Weekly Wrap ✨
What a wild week!! Coming out of two back-to-back weddings last weekend straight into another big one! so many sunrises and so many “is this even real life” moments.
We had two full days of flower school, including an excursion to Brisbane to dive into the ins and outs of sourcing and buying flowers (because let’s face it, that might even be more important than being an amazing designer). The students then poured their hearts into creating their final designs, which were beautifully photographed. On top of that, I had a pinch-me moment being photographed myself for something exciting coming soon. ✨
All of this layered over our usual flowery fun at the store, including the most amazing bunches of delphinium, plus staying on top of harvesting, fixing irrigation, planting, and the whirlwind of school holidays. The weather has been magic! though it’s also encouraged a few of my least favourite visitors (danger noodle 🐍).
My body is tired and my brain a little scattered, but my heart is so full. I’ve been reminding myself to take tiny moments to stay grounded, eating good food, cuddling baby animals, sitting in the sun, and soaking in the beauty of this season. You can’t wipe the smile off my face. 🌸

More sunrises than sleep lately! early mornings, full hands, fuller hearts. Wouldn’t have it any other way, and we can’t wait to share what’s coming soon. 💛

It’s not hard to see why poppies are such a favourite, true signs of spring, with their happy, dancing faces and the dreamiest colour palette. 🌸✨ They’ve been lighting up our days since June, but as the season shifts, they’re starting to come to an end.
The beautiful thing about working with the seasons is that every bloom makes way for something new. 🌱 So if poppies make your heart skip a beat now’s the time to soak them in while they’re still here. 💛

Feeling so honoured to be featured in , sharing a little piece of our work and values here in Australia’s sustainable flower movement, alongside the brilliant Jess and Katie of in the UK.
The print edition is finally available in Australia and I’m so proud to see our community represented in its pages.
This little feature speaks to why we grow the way we do seasonally, locally, thoughtfully and the impact it can have when we choose flowers that reflect place, people, and care.
It’s always been my mission to help people reconnect with the story behind the bouquet, whether they are one of our students, our customers, or simply someone who loves flowers.
Here’s to more growing, more learning, and more meaningful change, one bloom at a time. 🌸

Flower School – Beginner / Retail Course – Week 8 of 10
Week 8 already! 🌸 It’s been such a joy watching these women grow, not just in confidence and design skills, but in friendships too. Bringing together likeminded people and creating inspired communities is what it’s all about. What started as a group learning side by side has become a flower family, one that will cheer each other on as they step into the big wide world.
Next week we head out for our flower sourcing & buying excursion, followed by our final major works + photography day, the last few pieces to wrap it all together.
