Bees on the tulsi and dahlias in the home garden are my happy place with the flowers now! From a more personal perspective, here’s an update on my relationship with flowers and how that’s changed. This is Britte, I’ve been an owner / operator of a flower cart, two retail florists and a floral designer for events in the Byron Bay & hinterland area. Beginning floristry back to the 90’s, I worked with Saskia atGRANDIFLORA SYDNEYy and was hugely inspired by her passion and kind nature. Going to the Sydney flower market opened my eyes to the world of flowers, directly from the growers. The treasures found, the heartwarming colours that filled me with hope. I moved back home to Byron and started Beautiflora. It was challenging sourcing an abundance of garden fresh flowers with longevity, in a tropical climate. As the years went working with recipes that included imported chemical treated flowers was hard to avoid. The balance of local seasonal blooms and commercially grown imports on the flower market became a growing concern. Local, spray free & seasonal flowers are so important for the children’s future. Bees and indoor plants have been a focus during this time of reflection after closing the shop, it’s a natural evolution towards organic botanicals. Also find me at 🌱 beautiflora

Remember the little shop? It’s been 18 months since I closed the doors and started working from a peaceful studio in Federal. After the move, I decided to stop doing bouquets online and focus on indoor plant care services and botanical styling for events.

As any florist would understand, after 30 years of handling flowers on the daily it’s been a well needed break.

There were ethical considerations too- The lack of organic produce in the flower Industry had really started to get to me. Also the overall broken monetary system. The dollar is being devalued by money printing, and the solution is clear. There is only 21 million bitcoin, ever.

Whilst It’s not accepted on in Australia (yet), we accepted bitcoin on the lightening network in the shop.

As flowers are a luxury, and inflation is making everything more expensive, basic blooms in a vase aren’t as accessible as they once were.

The world has changed so much in a short time period. It’s more important than ever now to support small businesses.

I recommend who source locally grown organic produce for those who are looking to buy flowers. They have such a beautiful range of gifts for the festive season. Some of you will remember this is one of the locations where we began the retail chapter of Beautiflora. It’s time for a new chapter now. But first, rest.

B R I T T E started Beautiflora at the age of 21. Here she is now, age 47. She is still as in love with flowers as she was 30 years ago when she started her training in Sydney! The Byron Shire has undergone so much growth in that time and so has Beautiflora. Weddings and events were only just beginning in the local area in the early days around 2001. There were barely any venues or coordinators. After multiple decades of large scale event work, and managing a florist shop (or two!) for one of those decades, Beautiflora has weathered the many seasons of flowers and small business. Last year a decision was made to close the shop and now Britte is taking a hiatus from bouquet making! The business is mainly focused on floral event work and regular indoor plant care services. Britte now works from a private studio in the hinterland and also operates from a warehouse in the Byron Bay Industrial Estate, focusing on smaller events & installations, using organic local flowers and fruit as much as possible.

The Byron Bathhouse is our happy place. The magnesium enriched, pristine structured water spa bath is heavenly. Salt scrubs, electrolytes and our favourite skincare brand. Can’t recommend this place highly enough for self care. 🙌🏻

T R E E P E O N Y season will come, when the winter is done. The natural movement of flowers and the seasons will always influence the heart. As we head into a slower time for growth and blooms it can be good for florists and flower farmers to rest more with the knowledge that spring will bring more colour and movement. We are having a little break from bouquet making here at Beautiflora! We’ll keep on doing all the rest however gift bouquet deliveries are having a little hiatus. After 30 years of crafting them, we think it’s a well deserved break. We will still have flowering orchids & indoor plants available for gifting on the online store.
