Laura and Brayden Faganello fell in love the old-fashioned way through handwritten letters sent across continents while Brayden was doing mission work in South Africa and Laura was studying abroad. When they finally met in Victoria, Canada, they knew they had found something special. They married in 2016.

Nine months later, tragedy nearly erased their entire love story.

In April 2017, a steel pole fell and struck Laura on the head, causing a severe traumatic brain injury. When she woke up, years of memories were gone. She believed she was 17 again and didn't recognize the man beside her.

She had forgotten meeting Brayden. She had forgotten falling in love with him. She had forgotten their wedding.

Laura faced an impossible reality: she was married to a man she couldn't remember loving.

So she made an extraordinary decision. She took off her wedding ring and asked Brayden if they could start over... not as husband and wife, but as two strangers going on their first dates.

Brayden agreed.

"I knew I would take care of her," he said. "I knew I loved her."

Slowly, Laura began falling for him again. Not because she remembered their past, but because she experienced his kindness and patience in the present.

In 2019, Brayden proposed again.

Laura said yes.

On July 15, 2020, their original wedding anniversary, they married for a second time.

She had forgotten their love story.

Bless this man. I come from a family that adores babies and children. There’s not a much better feeling than cuddling a newborn.

Every Tuesday and Thursday, a 73-year-old man walks into the neonatal intensive care unit at the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU. He's not a doctor. He's not a nurse. He's not anyone's grandfather — not officially, anyway.

He's Dave Whitlow, volunteer baby cuddler. And he may have the most important unpaid job in the building.

For eight years, Whitlow has shown up twice a week to hold the hospital's tiniest, most fragile patients — babies born too early, babies facing surgeries, babies whose parents can't be at the hospital around the clock because life doesn't stop demanding rent and shifts and school runs. On a typical visit he holds five or six babies. On a busy day, eight. Some of them weigh less than 2 pounds.

The science on this is real: human touch helps regulate premature babies' heart rates, breathing, and stress. Cuddlers aren't a cute extra. They're part of the care.

But it's what happens at the end of each cuddle that gets people. Before Whitlow puts every baby down, he leans in and whispers the same six words:

"Grow strong. Grow smart. Grow kind."

A retired local government manager, father of two and grandfather of three, Whitlow has now whispered that blessing over hundreds of Richmond's smallest fighters. Ask him why he keeps coming back and he doesn't hesitate: "It's the best gig I've ever had. It just feels right."

Eight years. Two days a week. Six words.

Some people wait their whole lives to find their calling. Dave found his in a rocking chair.

Four-year-old Abby was battling leukemia and spending much of her time at the Melodies Center for Childhood Cancer at Albany Medical Center, where she formed a special bond with her favorite nurse, Matt Hickling.

After telling her mother that she wanted to marry him, her mom shared the sweet wish with Matt, who decided to make her dream come true. With the help of hospital staff, a mock wedding was planned in less than 24 hours.

On the big day, Abby wore a white dress and carried flowers as she walked down an aisle covered in rose petals while nurses acted as bridesmaids.

Matt wore a tuxedo shirt and scrubs, and the pair exchanged Ring Pops instead of traditional rings before celebrating with cake and photos.

The heartwarming ceremony brought joy to Abby and her family during a difficult fight with cancer, and the video quickly went viral, touching millions of people around the world.

Abby successfully finished her cancer treatments and has remained completely cancer-free.

Since her viral hospital wedding, she has grown into a healthy teenager, gone to school, and even welcomed new siblings to her family.

Abby and her favorite nurse, Matt Hickling, have stayed in touch long after she left the hospital and have continued to visit each other over the years.

Winter weddings! Can be fraught with danger but I’ve been so lucky with the ones I’ve conducted this past few weeks.
Today’s ceremony was held on a clear, wind free, crisp July morning. The winter garden was neat and tidy without much colour but my happy couple just loved being out amongst nature.

I still have a couple of winter elopements to conduct in my backyard chapel. The recent storms almost wrecked the garden but after a few solid days of cleanup, we have the place almost back to some sort of order! (mind you, it was a physically exhausting exercise!)
