I like film because it’s slightly inconvenient.

That probably sounds like a weirdo thing to say in a profession obsessed with making everything easier, faster and more efficient.

But weddings aren’t efficient. They’re messy. Emotional. Unpredictable. Someone cries during the speeches who swore they wouldn’t. Your veil flies off at the worst moment. The flower girl abandons her duties entirely.

Film feels built for that kind of humanity. It doesn’t tempt me to check the back of the camera every few seconds or obsess over whether a moment was captured perfectly. It keeps my attention where it belongs.

On people.

And I think that serves couples in ways they don’t always realise.

It means less directing. Less interrupting. Less turning moments into productions.

More space to be with your partner. More space to notice your friends. More space to actually experience the day you’ve spent months maybe years planning.

I think couples feel that difference.

Not because they care what camera was used, but because they can see themselves in the photographs. Not the curated version.

The version their favourite people know.

And that’s usually the one worth remembering.

I’ve been bringing more film to every wedding lately.

Not because it’s trendy. Mostly because it changes the way I see.

When every frame costs something and every roll has an end, you become a little more intentional. You stop shooting through moments and start sitting with them.

There’s a trust that comes with film. You make the photograph and move on. No checking the back of the camera. Then you wonder if you got it, what it will look like. Paying attention is what we do best.

I think that’s what I like most about it.

Weddings move fast. There’s a lot of pressure to keep up with everything happening at once. Film forces me to slow down and look for the moments carefully, the way someone reaches for a hand, the light falling across a room, the split second before everyone realises a photo is being taken.

The result feels different too. Not better. Just different. A little less perfect. A little more alive.
