It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our local queen, Chris Harvey, better known to the community as the fabulous Christina KneesUp
Whether she was gracing the stage at The Broken Heel Festival or calling numbers at the legendary Sunday Moo Moo Bingos, Christina was a gracious entertainer.
After restarting her career as one of the Silver City Queens at The Palace Hotel Broken Hill , Christina transitioned into a successful solo career. As The Palace Hotel’s "Drag Glambassador," she became a fixture of local culture, hosting Indian Pacific train shows, TV live crosses, and countless private events.
Known for her "classic glitz and glam," Christina possessed a wardrobe truly fit for royalty. She was often seen arriving in her sports car—packed to the roof with wigs and gowns—ready to dazzle her audience with her signature dry wit and polite charm.
Please join us in raising a glass to Christina KneesUp - Chookas !
She will be deeply missed.

Well we said we would sleep for a year and we surely have ! But now we are awake !😁

There has been many things that we have missed sharing over the year while we took a much needed break and we look forward sharing those tidbits and of course our fabulous photos of YOU ALL from last years spectacular event !
Thanks to everyone - whom over the last week, have been sharing with us their photo memories from festivals gone past over the last 10 years & please keep tagging us in ...we are SUPER PROUD of the fabulous times we have shared together, creating such a humbling unity from the acceptance showed from our diverse audience...there really is nothing quite like our Broken Heel Festival times...AND we can't wait for you all to join us on our next chapter !!?....

We are saddened to write of the passing of our dear friend June Marie Bennett aka Shirl. For anyone who seized the opportunity to meet June over the years at the festival know what a vivacious, caring and colourful person she was - who loved to entertain.
Her accidental movie star career as 'Shirl' in Priscilla Queen of the Desert was (the most under dressed you would ever see her!) ..and only a small petal of the sunflower that was June Marie.
Her tireless enthusiasm to bring smiles and joy to her community was part of her nature.
We will remember the twinkle in her eye when we described our idea to build a giant statue of her and dedicate our Mardi Gras float with dozens of Shirls in white singlets dancing down Oxford Street spreading a message of welcoming acceptance.
I'm sorry we never fulfilled your dream to suspend you from the main stage and shoot fireworks from your wrists as you sang to the audience - we are sure you are shooting a colourful stream of stars now...
So please drink a toast in honour of this lovely lady : Chukkas & Vale June Marie Bennett
