🌊 CURRENTLY ON SHOW IN NEWCASTLE: CAVITATION by Izabela Pluta

Step into a world of fractured maps, oceanic movement, and deep planetary echoes with Cavitation, a monumental solo project by internationally recognised, Newcastle-based contemporary artist Izabela Pluta.

Brought to life through a major international co-commission with TRAFO Center for Contemporary Art (Poland) and presented with The Lock-Up and the New Annual Festival, this exhibition explores how tides, pressure, and migration shape our world and our lives.

As a child, Pluta left Poland in 1986, a seismic shift of geography and belonging that echoes throughout this powerful body of work. Bridging two distant waters (the Muloobinba/Newcastle coastline and the Baltic waterways of Szczecin, Poland), Cavitation brings together sculpture, photography, moving image, sound, and a stunning new tapestry created with the Australian Tapestry Workshop.

📍 Where: The Lock-Up (90 Hunter St, Newcastle)

🗓️ When: On display until 31 January 2027

✨ Plus, explore the public outdoor installation Cavitation: Breathing Ocean at the Newcastle Canoe Pool!

Don't miss this incredible celebration of Polish-Australian contemporary art right in our backyard. Head to The Lock-Up's website or check out their events page to plan your visit and grab tickets for upcoming artist talks and workshops!

Cavitation unfolds across water, sound and fractured cartographies, examining how systems of orientation fail under pressure, repetition and displacement.
