The bones of Brisbane Powerhouse. Take a look back only 25 years, to the derelict, eery, decommissioned power station that once occupied this portion of the river bend.

Now, 2025, Brisbane Powerhouse stands strong, refurbished, but holding heritage at the waterfront of New Farm. A home to the arts, and the lovers of them.

Celebrating 25 years of culture, creativity and connection.

We are saddened to announce the passing of Peter Roy.

Throughout his expansive and pioneering career, Peter Roy guided the Queen Street Mall refurbishment, BCC Library Renewal program, Southern Region Bus Depot, and most notably, the Brisbane Powerhouse Centre for Live Arts, transforming it from a dilapidated electricity generating station into a lively, vibrant performing arts hub.

A significant practitioner and mentor in the architectural community for nearly 50 years, he nurtured the next generation through educator roles at the University of Queensland, Queensland University of Technology, Griffith University, and the Australian Institute of Architects.

Peter exemplified the altruistic publicly minded architect practitioner, giving far more to the profession than what he took. Generous in spirit, a figure from whom to seek sage advice. He was awarded an Australian Institute of Architects Queensland Chapter President’s Prize for his extraordinary contribution to the profession shortly before his death. Peter Roy continues to touch the lives of Australians through his works which will host and honour the arts industry well into the future.
