What an honour it was to recently be the Celebrant for Shannon & Tony as they were married in front of family & friends at Spicers Hidden Vale

The ceremony was full of heart, and plenty of tears (from the Groom!), with the couple’s children and nieces & nephews right up the front with them.

Manū Music - Wedding & Event Band SEQ Lima Manū were there bringing the live music goodness for the ceremony, and all the stunning images captured by Dreamlife Brisbane

Congratulations Shannon & Tony 🩷🩷

• WINTER WEDDINGS •

I am absolutely here for them!

Hear me out (as I sit under a cosy blanket on a 6 degree morning typing)……

Perfect afternoon sun for the ceremony where it isn’t too hot to be wearing a suit or gown with many layers (your guests aren’t sweating uncomfortably either!), maybe even SLEEVES on the dress (divine!); cosy reception spaces - think a gorgeous farmhouse or barn (some favourite options are Elm House Spicers Hidden Vale to name a few) with roaring fireplaces, velvet lounges with soft throw rugs for snuggling while chatting in between courses; dancing without needing to remove layers of clothing; and the night ending with cake, cheese platters and delicious hot toddies, mulled wine (or just fabulous coffee & tea) that everyone will enjoy, before the squeals of delight (or impending fear) from the guests as they don their scarves and warm coats, bracing themselves for a few moments of cold night air as they flee to waiting taxis or cars for their journey home.

Need I say more?!

• SO HIGH SCHOOL •

• THE KATE MACKIE CELEBRANT ORIGIN STORY •

Saturday night I got myself frocked up and cruised on down to my hometown of Byron Bay for my THIRTY Year (try not to choke on it!) High School Reunion.

‘What does this have to do with weddings?’ you might be asking.

Well it was at the 20 year reunion that I was chatting to someone about that for a few years I’d been thinking of doing the Celebrant training, to which this person said ‘DO IT! You’d be awesome at that!’

When I got home the next day, I promptly looked up, and booked in to, a week long in person training course, that was the start of Kate Mackie 💗 Modern Marrying

So the moral of this story is, go to your reunions as you might discover (through the eyes of someone else) that it’s not too late to try something new. And also, that I don’t know that I can ever use ever again! (Not that I ever did)

The BEST moral of the story is the reminder that years can pass but then you’ll see friends from childhood again, and it will be like you’re right back there. So happy to have this photo of some fabulous ladies I’ve known since 10 years old. 🩷

✊🏼 NOT DANGEROUS ENOUGH ✊🏼

Not totally wedding related, but today, June 19th is ‘wear your Dangerous Females shirt’ day. It’s not the only day of the year I wear it, but absolutely made sure I did today - and I also made sure I left the house!

If you don’t know who Dangerous Females are and all the amazing work they do, I encourage you to go and check them out. If you wondered why the Story Bridge was lit up in purple and pinks last night - it was for them.

In recent weeks I’ve become even more enraged than I’ve ever been before about the shocking lack of support (and belief) for female victims of SA, DV and other forms of control, and am looking for what more I can do.

I’m not sure what it will be yet, I’ll be starting with a DF jumper, as the tee isn’t quite cutting it in Winter!

What an absolutely stunning moment captured by Matt from as Hayley & Tom made their way down the aisle as a newly married couple!

A short moment of light rain during the ceremony resulted in a gorgeous rainbow appearing as I introduced the new Mrs & Mr to their family and friends 🩷

Pre-professional photo selfie time! (There’s no going back after those ones are shared).

On a very glorious afternoon in early May, it was a thrill to get Hayley & Tom married. Even more special was that a dear Celebrant friend trusted me to take care of her couple when she was unable to be there on the day.

These two are the sweetest couple, with a super cute love story to boot. The ceremony started with Tom and his ‘beer boys’ arriving in the golf buggy, tunes blaring, and beers being handed out to the guests; and ended with the most spectacular double rainbow as they were announced as Husband and Wife!

Congratulations Mr & Mrs Ziser 🩷

Amy & Boy - my 200th couple, 2 years ago today.

This was a super special one, having gotten to know Amy through my favourite venue,
to have been chosen for her Wedding Day, among all the many, many Celebrants she had seen and knew, was a massive honour. The fact it lined up to be my 200th ceremony was extra special, and I LOVED that it was Amy & Boy who got that number. The ceremony was a true celebration of them as a couple, with their six gorgeous kids, and amazing family and friends surrounding them; and all captured to perfection by the Queens, Dani & Niki at 🔥

• GOOD MORNING •

It’s been such a long time between posts, so I thought I’d get myself away from the desk and onto the grid! And what better way than with sharing some favourite cottage flowers growing in my own garden - I adore the whimsy of Cosmos - and the long stems make for a great bouquet filler.

I am a flower lover of all varieties, but I’d love to know - what are you planning or did you have for your wedding bouquet, a loose whimsical bouquet, or something more structured and traditional?
